Title: Surgery Wait List Times for Canadians under Canadian Health Insurance

Does anyone know what the general wait time for surgery is, once you've been referred to the clinic in Montreal? I've been referred and I'd like to hear if anybody is currently on the wait list and how long you've been on it for, or if you've already gotten the surgery on Canadian Health Care, how long did you wait for? Did they give you an estimate as far as time goes? This is to see Dr. Brassard btw! So if anybody has had or is going to have surgery with him, even if you aren't getting it on Canadian Health Insurance, your input would be equally valuable :) This is for the MtF, vaginoplasty procedure btw.
Thanks for your time!

Men transitioning to women typically need to wait six to eight months to begin surgery at the clinic, while the wait time for the more complex female-to-male surgery is between 18 months and two years.

Thanks for the link. I've actually read most articles about the surgery and its wait lists. I'm more hoping for personal accounts. But thank you anyways :)

There was a person asking in April getting a date in November.
She was self paying though.

Back in 2014, I received my OK for the funding in Apr 14, I had to pay the $2000 deposit (BCMSP, now they don't need to anymore) before they can give me the date. Due to this and that, I finally paid for my deposit in Jun 14. I had my surgery in Nov 14.

Yep, but it was perfect since I don't need to take the full 6 weeks vacation because there's christmas and end of the year holidays. Saved up my vacation for something else.

Hi Michelle
I just had surgery with Doctor Marci Lee Bowers in October and I had to wait 1 year and 3 months but it was worth the wait. I love all of them out in Burlingame CA. if you call and talk to Robin she can put you on the cancelation list. I didn't do that because of my job and waiting for my Insurance to confirm that it was all paid for which it was i did not even have to pay a co-pay but I live in New England and my Insurance is with BC & BS of Illinois thru Sears Holding INC.

A lady at work went through the CAMH circus hoops and her wait time with Dr. Brassard was something like 10 months but that was about 3 years ago. No idea of the wait time now but CAMH is so backed up now just to be seen! I put my application in way back in March 2015 and the wait time was 18 months according to their letter. Guess what? Still waiting to be seen by CAMH. (lol)
Decided I couldn't wait any longer and paid for my surgery from my own purse with Dr. Christine McGinn in Pennsylvania. Wait time with her was 6 months and I needed that time to do hair removal and get some testing done.
The provincial government just HAS to do something soon about having only ONE place for ALL of Ontario not to mention another province or 2 to approve health care funded SRS.
Love,
Clare

I just had surgery with Brassard back at the beginning of November. I was pretty lucky with wait times. My referral was sent out to Montreal in March. In June they gave me the date for November. So from when they called me it was only a 5 month wait but it takes them 6-8 weeks to go through all the referrals they get and respond back to you

Hi Michelle
I waited 1year and 4 months for Doctor Marci Lee Bowers and I have to say that it was worth the wait. She is a sweet Heart and Very good at what she does as she is like us and takes a lot of pride in what she does. I had my surgery in October and have had wonderful results. Very little pain for a big gain if you know what I mean. I would chose her again for anything that I need done and she is doing my 3 month check up on Feb 4th 2016. I live across the country from her but don't care. I will go to her for what ever I need to. Feel free to PM me any questions.

my timeline went like this
i was referred to CAMH (toronto) october 2013... CAMH responded august 2015 and i got my first interview with a psychologist... 2nd interview was around october 2015 then i had to wait again until february 2016 when i got the funding letter... on the letter it says to call dr brassard right away due to them having a long waitlist... i gave my medical package to dr brassard's clinic late april 2016 and by late june 2016 the clinic called me to give me surgery date which is october 2016. i hope this helped

Wow! I am surprised that your date is that soon! I had my referral submitted at the beginning of May, sent in my patient survey beginning of June, and then they needed to send to BC for approval of funding. Still waiting! I was told that once they have approval, I will get at date that will probably be six to eight months away. October is not that far away! You must be excited. All the Best!
