Susan's Place Transgender Resources

I was in CVS getting a prescription filled and I was just sitting nosing around and this lady came under my sights . I noticed her because she had on a really pretty skirt and ankle boots. she had a nice overcoat too and I thought how pretty the skirt was. It was purple. I got a little suspicious because her head and face were pretty much covered by a hood on the coat. My suspicions were confirmed when she looked at me and nodded then when she had to answer the pharmacists questions. You could tell she was forcing a higher octave and it wasn't smooth. So now I have confirmation of another trans in my neighborhood. I'm thinking invasion of the body snatchers.

I had my transdar go off at a club a few weeks ago. My friends and I were chilling on a sofa behind the dance floor, just enjoying the moment and each other. My eyes were wondering around, enjoying the scenery when I caught sight of this tall girl dancing like maybe 40 feet away. I noticed some of her features when my transdar went off. I just knew. I stared at her for about 15 seconds, because I was reading her, but mostly I just wanted to go up to her and greet her. Say what's up to someone like me. She then noticed me and knew that I knew. I felt kind of bad since she probably saw me as another cis person staring at her. I just wish there was a way to approach other trans people in public without outing them. We really need to develope a way. Maybe a secret handshake lol.

There is a way if you don't mind outing yourself. You could get a small transgender lapel pin made with the transgender flag on it. Most people wouldn't know what it means and if it's small, most people would just consider it another piece of jewelry.

Well next time yo might try to not give that conspicious smile...
but give a broad and nice smile, walk up to the person, say hi and find out who they are as a person...

I love the Idea of that hand shake. That is a good idea but you have to be able to approach them without be tagged yourself and making you both stand out.

That would be great if there was an easy way for us to say hello to our sisters without causing them any problems. If I do see one, I just make eye contact and nod my head in recognition from a distance.

Perhaps she was reading you!!!Really,or perhaps  you saw another trans person and you wanted to jump up and down and say look at me and how well I pass,I could be cis.I'm glad you felt bad because it's rude to stare.FYI i'm one of those tall girls who sets off peoples transdar or whatever you want to call it.Why do you even feel the need to approach people you dont know just to say hi,I'm trans too and then what.Oh sorry,you were having a nice time and I've come along to remind you of your otherness.What you actually need to develop is a way to be subtle or even take the concept of having a transdar and shove it where it belongs-in the bin.

Okay folks, lets please remember TOS 9 and 10. I know it can be easy for us to spot other trans people besides are self, but lets make sure we are understanding and considerate of everyone else. Hugs

I just find it interesting. This girl I saw in CVS seems to have recognized me as trans and this other girl in my neighborhood is the same way , but we've never talked. A few weeks ago I was by the LGBT center and a girl came right out and somehow knew my name and yelled out hi!. Quite curious.

You need to chill out. You've misinterpreted my post and are putting words in that I never said.

personally I wish people could just embrace the concept of being trans. when that girl at the LGBT center came out the door of a drug store and yelled out my name even though I hadn't the slightest idea who she was, I thought it pretty funny.Back in my Hippie days it was a joyous occasion when a brother or a sister met on the street.

I don't trust my transdar anymore lol.

There are some masculine looking women out there sometimes....you never ever want to make an assumption lol.

At some point you get so used to looking for other trans women that you may be seeing it where it's not too.

I don't have any of the radars. I only notice when its very obvious. A couple of weeks ago I was with my husband at the doctor's office and on our way out the checkout clerk was very very attractive and dressed in a 'high fashion' manner unusual to the office environment. Her cat eyeliner caught my eye cause I liked it.  When I was talking with her, she did not want to talk. When she did  -- well you know the story. Then I noticed the tracheal shave scar. FFS teeny scars in hairline. I did not flintch an eye or anything.  But I knew.  Just went about my business as usual. Had not even thought about it till now.  Pretty girl she is.

This.  So very much this.  I've had a few misfires recently!  Luckily I hadn't gone up to them for a secret handshake!

I think you do notice more trans people around you if your trans yourself since your probably trying to cover up the same things they are.  I'd never just go up to someone though!

maybe someday we'll get to a point in society where things like this just don't matter. Where it's really no big deal that your trans and you can just converse about without batting an eye. Complete human family acceptance.
