Another study suggests 'gay genes' might really exist

"Yet another study has suggested that we could be closing in on so-called 'gay genes'.
The genetic analysis of 409 pairs of gay brothers, which included twins, provides the most compelling evidence so far that people are born gay. "

I would think this would have implications for transgender too.

It could be epigenetic too, meaning certain conditions cause the assemblage of certain genes to an effect. It's like the difference between hardware and software. It's the bigger mystery than the genes themselves as it's the how and why.

It wouldn't surprise me if this would change Christian attitude to abortion. That is the church will then say to parents that it is ok to abort trans or gay babies.
Like in one episode of Law and Order where the fetus was aborted by the father when realized it carried the gay gene.
This position isn't likely to happen if it is due to hormones in the womb. it would only be noticed after birth.

this is why I kind of wish they wouldn't go looking for a scientific 'cause'. it just always makes me think of eugenics

I'm not reading outside of what's been said here but, can anyone clarify why about a year or so ago my "Dad" said scientists have proven the gay gen doesn't exist without a shadow of a doubt? Because this here, seems to say otherwise....
Oh and I basically told him, so what if it doesn't exist? You'd still have 2 genes for which sex you're attracted too, all one needs is for it to say female for a female vs. male. :P

If a prenatal cause exists it destroys the anti-LGBT standard narrative that everyone is born exactly the same and any LGBT expression is an immoral choice. It also undermines their biblical interpretations which is a huge challenge for those whose entire basis of faith is in that book.

That said, I hope anyone who follows this story will post an update here if they do or don't find it in their search, I'd like to know.

Speaking as a Christian that opposes abortion I can say for certain that my position on abortion would NOT change if it were shown that an unborn baby was going to be gay or trans*. I see killing ANY human as immoral -- and that for sure tosses out any idea of eugenics.
The position that some "christians" take regarding gay or trans* people would HAVE to change if it could be shown scientifically, without a doubt, that we are born as we are. I am not sure there is but one factor that is involved as that would suggest that there would be more of us. However, I am sure there is a combination of factors that does cause us to be trans* or gay and eventually these will be discovered. Then any honest Christian will need to make amends.

This would challenge the interpretations (which are WRONG) but the basis of faith would remain rock solid. Those interpretations are rather annoying. With my limited understand of Greek and Hebrew it would seem that the Bible was originally very carefully written to NOT address issues related to trans*. My understanding is less about gay people, but it would appear to be the same.
This is a complex issue and I hope the real root (or roots) of the variations can be found.
Maybe a step forward is coming.

Given that a whole lot of people in America steadfastly deny any sort of evolution and insist that the earth is only 6000 years old, they will not change their position on the cause of LGBT no matter what science says. The only thing that might change their view is Jesus physically appearing in the sky and telling them so. Even then, they would probably say he is the devil because the Bible doesn't say he will appear in the sky to tell them that.

QuoteFour in 10 Americans believe God created the Earth and anatomically modern humans, less than 10,000 years ago, according to a new Gallup poll.

It really isn't a christian problem as much as a cultural one that uses religion to justify it. We know this to be true as the percentages/numbers of people of most if not all christian communities in the US that support gay marriage has increased over time. The culture changes and everyone follows eventually.

I think the same!!!
so how about environmental trigger? i think that genes and environment are important things to human development...
Probably our culture or society don't accept trans or gay babies but i hope that in future the people become more comprehensive

In my case, my parents were older for the the time period. Mom was 39 and dad was 37. I was born premature too, 10 weeks early because of AO blood incompatibility. Another nugget is autism/aspergers.
