Now that I am officially on HRT which includes Spiro, can someone tell me whether it's OK to take the occasional ibuprofen for mild aches? I would also like to know if it's safe to use EMLA cream (2.5% lidocaine) to help with laser?

You shouldn't ask ppl on the net stuff like this, ask your doctor. But they will tell you that they are fine.

I do not take Spiro but my MD allowed me to take Ibuprofen and Emla Cream. After GRS I ate Ibuprofen like cookies.

My advice is more to fade out any AA AS fast as possible. Therefore I had GRS six months after starting HRT.

I have a lot of headaches and occasional pain. I'm on spiro and I regularly take ibuprofen to stop the headaches and the pain. Nothing has fallen off yet  :laugh:

I called the pharmacy and they also said it's fine. I tend to really bang myself up running.

Hi Marissa:  Don't worry a bit about the EMLA cream.  It is a very mild numbing agent.  I have used it for electrolysis and it helped a little.  My plastic surgeon prescribed a better numbing agent for me that was 23% lidocaine and I'll never bother with the EMLA again.  Electrolysis still hurts even the 23% lidocaine.  Can't help you with laser though. 

It's probably worth mentioning ibuprofen and aspirin have interactions with SSRIs like fluoxetine, because some of us are on antidepressants. They can cause internal bleeding. In fact SSRIs interact with over 1000 other medications.

You can google "drug interactions" and you'll find drugs.com, rxlist and webmd. You can list all the drugs you're on and they will tell you minor or serious interactions. Hint: use all three to get a full picture.

As I found out last weekend, fluoxetine and Phenergan (promethazine) do NOT go together. I assumed an antihistamine was innocuous - wow was I wrong, I lost motor and cognitive function. Drug interactions are not something you want to fool with.

Another option is to use a medication tracker smartphone app. I have one that keeps track of my dosages, refill reminders , and drug interactions. I like it because if my doctor prescribes something new, I only have to add the one medication rather than everything if I am looking for interactions.

I use one called Mango Health for iPhone, but there are several other good ones too. Just search for "medication tracker" in your favorite app store.
