Title: Jean sizes?

I'm a 34X34 Men's pant. My waist size is 39". Haven't actually measured my legs. Anyone know what women's sizes I'd need? I'm an L/7 panty but I don't believe the packaging when it says I should fit a 12. A close friend who is TINY claims to wear that same size, which he'd been wearing when he told me.

Jeans vary in size depending on style and brand. If your inseam is 34 inches in mens you will need a ladys jean that are labeled tall 12L is tall, again different brand and styles will have different inseam lengths for their tall jeans, they usually vary from 33 inches to 35 inches. It can be hard to find a pair of jeans that fit right, most women have trouble finding a pair that fits them right in every dimension.

Complete agree. You really need to try different brands. Since women's clothes don't run by measurements, the sizing is actually quite arbitrary. When I buy women's clothes, I am anywhere from a 00 to a 2.
Some brands will put up a size chart on their website that will show what the sizes are in inches.
American Apparel says a 34" waist is somewhere between a size 12 and 14. https://www.americanapparel.net/sizing/default.asp?chart=womens.pants
Cabela's you'd be a size 14. http://www.cabelas.com/assets/product_files/pdf/blackhawk_womens_sizing_chart.pdf
American Eagle, you'd be a size 16 or size 18. https://www.ae.com/sizechart/default.html

Columbia size 12 is about 32/32
Silver, buffalo sizes run a size or two smaller than the tags waist.
General rule of thumb designer clothes always fit a bit smaller so size up at least once!

I wore that size pants, idk if they fit perfectly but that's what size I used to buy in men's. I tried to go by the online conversions and it gave me like size 16T I think in women's. Tried em on and they were wayyyy too big! After MUCH trial and error, realized that I'm about 10T women's.
But ya, it just depends. Different brands have different measurements, you just kinda gotta try em on and see.

If you are thinking of ordering them on the internet, order them a size larger than what you THINK will fit.
BETTER YET, order from a place that will allow returns, order a 12, 14 & 16 and return what does not fit.
I have several pairs of low rise tight fitting jeans ( prefer black but that is just me ) that I have purchased
from amazon prime this way.
Most of the time, it is the size above what "should fit" that actually fits my ever thickening body.
My work pants are 34x32. My fem pants are almost entirely 14's. Though there is one pair of 16's
that are T I G H T !!! hahahaha!
It just flat out sucks. Buying clothes that fit right that is. Lets face it, even in MENS pants, you can try on
10 pairs of 34x32, and all 10 will fit slightly ( or drastically ) different!

Yes. Bigger sizes are always good for your health or looking. I liked stretchable jeans, as they are very comfortable to wear. I purchased most of stretchable jeans in Wal-mart.

Another question: would I want shorter pant legs? My male jeans are 34 because they cover my ankles and kinda pool around my shoes so nothing shows when I lift my leg. But when I'm not wearing shoes they drag behind my feet. Would I want women's pants that stop at or a little past the ankle? Am I just over thinking things? ???

From my own ways to conversions I do say since I have a 30x28 in males clothing and wear sizes 2 to 4 short, I've found its about an extra inch per size up so of you want something more snug maybe 8 or to something more relaxed try toward 10?

Yer. There are various type of jeans on lengths. Bootcut jeans are nice when you wear high heels. Shorter jeans are more convenient to wear with sneakers (athletic shoes). I also like high water jeans, but I can not wear them frequently nowadays.

Hi - very new to this. As a guy I am a 30/31 with pretty good legs (though I say it myself, the cycling - not to excess - helps with that). Would that be something like an 8L?
Sorry if this is basic stuff, but jeans seem like they ought to be one of the easier things to get right!
Thanks
Julia

It's better to get something longer than you might actually need -- you can always get the pants hemmed. It's easy to hem pants yourself, or seamstresses can do it for quite cheap.

Well, here's the thing. With most pants and definitely with jeans, you want to try them on in the store-- especially if you don't already know your size with the manufacturer. Between clothing makers changing their sizes and lousy factory quality control there tends to be considerable differences even from one particular pair to another. When I first started wearing women's pants 20 years or more ago, I could wear a 12. Five years or so I was wearing a 10. Now I seem to have to buy an 8. My waist size hasn't changed. The manufacturers keep changing their numbers to flatter their customers who seem to have ever expanding waistlines.
With tops or dresses I can shop online, but for jeans and non-elastic waist pants I always try them on at the store.

Hi Morgan
I would say that you need to try them on to find out. Different companies are totally different in the size category. As for me Some companies are size 10 for me and others are size 12 or even size 8. I hate it when they are to tight as then they will show all you bad points plus they will be uncomfortable . Bottom line is you have to try them on.

So, onward, to trying on. Not sure if you are there yet, I shop for jeans at womens brick and mortar clothing stores. Where I live, they have no problem with me looking trying and buying clothing. That includes 3 major clothing chains in Canada. Manufacturer, style and material, all play in fit. If you are on hrt that complicates it even more. Depending where the waist band is I can fit any where from a 12 to a 16. I try to fit with a stretch fabric as it huggs my legs and but a lil better.
It can be a struggle at first but as your confidence improves, there are few things more fun than clothes shopping.

If you have trouble with the waist size try up to two sizes bigger or smaller.

Hi All
I alway try them on as I hate going back to return them. I wear a lot of skirts & dresses to for my work so when I come home there is nothing like my yoga pants and sweets or Jeans.
Hugs

Kate - thanks for the tip. I think we may size differently here in the UK. Last year i picked up two pairs of 511s (I think) for about $40 in a Levis outlet store. Will have to do some experimenting I think. This may be my first "out" purchase".

Best option is to try the jeans, panties and bras in the store or simply buy try on at home and return.
