I am really excited to start this journey! ... After hours and hours of calling endo's trying to find someone who would do bio-identical hormones, I finally found a doctor/clinic to do them. The only problem, they have never worked with a TG patient before and are approaching it very very conservatively!

They only gave me one 12mg pellet. (not trying to violate site rules, I wasn't sure if I could post this as it requires a doctor or specialist to insert them) Would anyone who has had bio-identical hormones give me an idea of how much their doctor gives them? From my understanding it seems that some of us take 6-12 individual pellets every 3 months but the size is never listed.

Or I was curious to see if anyone knew of any information that I could provide this doctor to feel more comfortable providing a more liberal approach to hormones like Dr. O'dea in LA? Unfortunately I am located in NC and I am unable to meet with Dr. O'dea every 3 months or I would do that. It would be great to find an experienced doctor who does bio-identical hormones in the southeast but there seems to be hardly anyone that I can find.

Mine is far larger. I'm not sure about posting this either, but its not like you can do DIY with them.

As you say, you can't self med a pellet so it should be OK to post the size of the pellet. I see the same endo as AnonyMs and likewise have a much larger pellet which usually lasts me up to 9 months. My endo says the longer you use pellets the less frequently they need to be implanted - some of his long term patients only need a replacement every 12-18 months or longer. You should probably ask to get your bloods checked after two months to make sure yours is going the distance.

I want to try pellets; was it covered by your insurance? If not, how much did it cost? Thanks.

I'm in Australia so I doubt the costs will be comparable, I got some of the cost back through our public system the rest of it I had to pay for. There's the cost for the pellet but also the minor surgical procedure - local anaesthetic, incision and, after inserting the capsule, stitching it back up. For me it was (from memory) $AU300-ish (?) but that has lasted me 9 months so it's a reasonable trade off - but probably not as cheap overall as tablets or injections (?) (dunno).

Insurance covered the consultation but I had to pay $250 out of pocket for the surgery and pellet.

It's reasonable but I would have happily paid much more if I got an adequate dosage. I got a feeling 12mg won't do much.

It's not the doing but the lasting. It should work fine since it releases slowly into your bloodstream, how long it does that for is the issue.
