Title: What should M2F Expect when going to Doctor office after a name & gender change
Post by: thegator on January 06, 2016, 01:45:54 AM
For Female born at birth don't they go through this or close to it?:

*A nurse will bring you back and take your measurements, just like at a standard doctor's office. That means height and weight and blood pressure.
*After the basics have been covered, you will be left in the room by yourself to change into the typical doctor's office paper gown.  You will be asked to remove all clothing, including your underwear.
*After you've changed, the doctor will knock on your door, come in and introduce themself.
*They will ask you a series of questions based on the paperwork you filled out in the waiting room. If you are sexually active, they will ask you about contraceptive use and about your periods – if they are regular, when your last one was, and how long they typically last. They will ask if you want to have any STI or HIV testing along with your exam.

Do Women always change into a Gown or not on all doctor visits or is it mandatory?..

Will my visits be the same as any other visit i had in history or will it be a lot different experience.

Will it all depend on if you had Gender Surgery or Not or is it based off the Gender Marker "F"..

This seems like a silly question but ... i would really like to know what is in store for me.....

I guess it depends on what's wrong with you or what you are having checked out. I can't imagine a need to get into gown for the majority of visits. If their not dealing with your reproductive or urinary system I doubt they should even need to check you out down there.

It all depends on why you went in the first place. For my doctor, she will have me change completely for an annual physical exam including the dreaded prostate exam, otherwise it depends why I'm there. Sometimes all that is required is a "lift your top" or just a verbal consultation and brief exam to confirm diagnosis. Changing gender in name or physical marker should not make a difference on the process.

If you don't want something done to you, you have the right to refuse it.

Love,
Clare

A normal doctor visit shouldn't involve removing your clothes. Think my GP seen my naked once in a decade and that was after srs just to check granulation at my request.

Only time I had to wear a gown where in hospitals, for xrays, ultra sounds and surgeries

There is a variance by practice too. My doctor has most patients undress and put on a gown if there is ANY chance she will need access to the body in general.

When I went for a sore throat, the doctor just skipped over the period/contraception questions on the form with a "I don't think we need to worry about these questions". She knew I was trans*. It probably would have required an explanation if she hadn't.

I have been seeing my doctor for about a year now a half dozen or so visits one more coming up next week in fact. when i first went there I kept thinking back to when I was a kid and you would end up in your underwear waiting for the doctor who would poke and touch you in various places exc.

So far I have not gotten any more undressed than taking my shoes off before I got on the scale, once or twice my doctor lifted my shirt to listen to my lungs or heart but nothing else. I will say though that I go to the fenway health center in boston, they specialize in LGBT health so I think there policies tend to be for the benefit of people who may have serious body issues and sever dysphoria.

Really there is no good reason for the doctor to want you naked unless they really need to check something that is in the naked areas

I'm asked to undress and put a gown on. Most times without my bra and panties
