Title: Another product to toss in the BAD box
Post by: abd789 on January 07, 2016, 07:16:56 AM
So when I got matched for dermablend, the girl suggested a moisturizer... Ive been learning the hard way about products and how some or most do more damage than good :-\

so of course the product she suggested was 138 dollars! she even put it on me and it didnt feel like 138 dollars... ???

she did say if I was budget oriented that oil of olay products would be good enough :embarrassed:
I picked up some oil of olay original moisturizer for 10 dollars and started using it, although I did notice a nice scent to it which raised my eyebrows. Now 4 days into it, my face and neck are red, splotchy and ->-bleeped-<-ty looking. I also was very happy 2 days ago when I started mixing my foundation with it as a tinted moisturizer... I loved that look, feel and result and thought Id found my makeup secret.... but no  >:(

Now I add to the HUGE box of products I bought only to waste as they arent helping me and some are hurting things :'(

I have very sensitive skin and Olay is the only moisturiser I can use that does not inflame my skin. If you are mixing the Olay with foundation, check if it is the foundation and not the Olay that is causing a problem.

The only foundation that works for me is MaxFactor's Colour Adapt

I know exactly how you feel.  I have several boxes of makeup, cleansers, etc. which I give away or use when I run out of something. So frustrating when some of the pricey stuff does not live up to its claim.  I've gotten into the habit of returning items for credit or switching.

I've been using Estee Lauder Resilience Lift moisturizer in the lotion for day (they make a foundation with this already in it so you don't have to mix it).  As a primer I use MitoQ Serum because I like how it tones my skin. My 'go to' for almost everything before moisturizer is Estee Lauder Perfectionist -- love this product.  I use the serious moisturizers and serums at night. I am big on skincare and will spend money on quality stuff, but if it doesn't work or I hate it -- it's going back for credit or another product. It sounds like you have sensitive skin - have you looked at Acure or Clarins?

Thanks! I havent heard of those two, are they for sensitive people?

My body is weird, something that will break me out today will be fine for weeks later... I just never know

I keep a spare box of everything that I didn't like and let my girl friends play with them... if it works for them I let them keep it. It keeps me high on their Christmas shopping lists when they find fabulous makeup that I might like. :)

All else fails... it comes in handy for Halloween. Someone always forgets some bit of makeup when they're getting ready. Then you're a hero! ;)

I started with the drugstore makeup. Once I found one that worked I kept it around. I get the super expensive stuff one piece at a time, so if it doesn't work out I can always fall back on my tried and true.

Well... another option is to go for organic and plant oriented products with few ingredients.

For example:
-jojoba or coconut oil
-products that are used to make perfume and lotions yourself. The base ingredients are available in some shops and are without refinements which might irritate.
-organic foundations and lipstick. They often smell and taste amazing. If the prices are a bit higher it might be possible to stick to a few items of higher quality.
Here is an example from the UK , which covers well:

Welcome to being a female!

The next thing you'll discover is that as soon as you find a product that you really like - it gets discontinued!

Yes, Acure and Clarins are both organic based products and geared towards sensitive skin. Acure has the best pure argon oil I've seen and used. I use Acure shampoo and conditioner and my hair loves it and price is really good for the quality (I shed very little hair now). Whole Foods or Sprouts carries the line.

I'm still stuck shaving my face, albeit only once every day or two usually, and I have sensitive skin, so I researched for something to help redness and moisturize well at the same time. I've now been using regular Aloe Vera as a facial moisturizer and I really like it. Cheap, simple, organic, and it works well for me. Doesn't clog my pores like other moisturizers either.

Aloe Vera, something to try ;)

I just googled oil of olay and rash and it seems to be very common, they use mineral oil which breaks out many people in a rash.... FML >:(

Use Aloe Vera moisturiser & toner from the Body Shop. It's very good for sensitive skin

Check Amazon and ebay...I've found things that "arent made anymore" (per store staff) still available.

I've used and thrown away so many moisturizers until a friend of mine who owns a aesthetic spa recommended Paula's Choice to me.  I never heard of it so I looked it up and ordered it on Amazon.  They feel smooth, light, and really, the best moisturizer I've ever used.  Only thing it, it tends to be a bit pricey.  Great for sensitive skin though, since I break out in a rash if I don't use the right moisturizer.

P.S.  I don't work for, represent, yadda yadda, etc. for Paula's Choice.  It's just something I personally use and love.
