Title: Estradiol.... Blue vs white pill?
Post by: Angélique LaCava on January 12, 2016, 02:38:09 PM
I went to another pharmacy for financial reasons but for some reason these pills I got from this new pharmacy are blue and oval shaped while the ones I got from the other pharmacy were white and round. So my question is are they the same or somehow different?

Estradiol is produced by several manufactures and each has there own way of packing the pill. Dosages can vary with the pill design so anytime you pick up a new prescription, you should check the appearance of the tablets before you accept them. If they look different than the last batch, ask right a way. Most the time the druggist get it right but every once in a while they make a mistake.

If you have one of the old pills, you can do an internet search and match up the image with the drug description. When I attempted it, I found far to many Estradiol tablets to even guess at which one you are taking,

Estradiol because it is micronized can always be taken sublingually but please advise doctor if you plan on taking them this way. I honestly found no difference between taking the same dose orally and sublingually.

It sounds pretty normal to me. Mine are again different from both of your pictures. Small little blue circle things but they aren't flat and have a small coating.

Don't worry too much about it, just check to make sure the pills are the right dosage so you know how to take them.

Do you take "ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate" pills or regular estradiol pills? Because the pills on this link you posted are "ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate", these are birth control pills used for contraception...

Okay folks. The pictures are fine as long as they don't reference the dosages. I removed a link a moment ago due to the dosage being in it. Lets please Keep TOS 8 mind. Thanks

Ok :)
Progynova (estradiol valerate) usually isnt sublingual, at least I havent heard about micronized version. If they are both Progynova or generic from other brands, there shouldnt be any difference, regardless of color and shape.

Mine are a green-ish/blue-ish oval pill.

When in doubt, definitely ask.  Also, most pharmacies now print a verbal description of what the pill looks like (color, shape, markings) on the bottle as well.  Just FYI.

the ones I got r a greenish blue. I only said blue cause they look more blue than green but I'm not goin to worry cause I doubt they r any different cause they r the same dosage as my white pills were just different color n shape.

I too have been on progynova since day 1 and i am going through the same issue !
I have posted 2-3 times about it.
I started with the blue pills and by the 10-11th month i was almost satisfied with the result but then the manufacturer changed the product to white and ever since then i can see that its not the same !
My cheekbones have diminished.. i have become skinny again like bonny the way i used to be before hrt... My breasts have shrunk.. the 2-3 strands of hair i had on my cheeks have started growing back (they had disappeared on the blue pills).. my skin had this glow and now thats gone.
More over during 10-11th month almost anyone and everyone would call me mam or miss etc i literally didn't need my glares anymore and as a matter of fact last evening i was with my friends in a public area and i could feel like people could make out i was "different" .. i saw a couple of them purposely walk back and forth bringing their friends or whatever to show them.
I was never depressed in life and after starting hrt i was happier than ever until the last few months. I have genuinely felt depressed !!
I have checked with my doc and i did whatever he asked me to..
I checked with my blood work.. i am within the female hormone range. Everything looks normal.
I got my Venous Doppler as well as my chest x ray done and everything seems normal..
And the reason i know its the white pills is because i instantly felt the change within a weeks time.
The manufactures have stopped producing the blue pills more over they say the white pills are the same as blue nothing has changed but the colour. Rest everything is the same.So i don't know what to do..  :'(

The blue-green one is generic bio identical estradiol manufactured by Teva pharmaceuticals. Basically a generic form of estrace.

The white one is ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate (synthetic progestin).

They are different medications and should be dosed differently.

Unless you are self medicating no pharmacy would substitute one for the other. Your doctor has to do that and I would question why they would do so. They are different and the white pill is basically hormonal birth control and more dangerous.

I really think it depends on where you get it filled. I know I've gotten bio identical estradiol in 2 different shapes and color variations. If you ever have a doubt, ask the pharmacist. You can always look it up online so you know what to ask, but ask because even if you ARE getting the wrong thing, they need to know to correct the issue. If the pharmacist at the counter doesn't know, change pharmacies.

It doesn't depend on where it's filled if it's filled with the same prescription. The second white pill with the A9 imprint is definitely not bio identical estradiol and I doubt any reputable pharmacy would give you ethinyl estradiol as a substitute.

Let's agree to disagree. I'm not talking specifically about your A9 white pill example, I'm sure you are correct with that, but I know that even my spiro pills changed from yellow pills to caramel colored pills. Actually now that I'm thinking about it probably does have to deal with Dosage.

I'm taking generic Estrace. They are light blue oval tablets. I usually let them dissolve under the tongue.
