Title: Winter storm warning
Post by: Susan on January 21, 2016, 05:46:35 PM

They are talking about anywhere from 4-12 inches of snow with locally higher amounts, as well as a 10th inch of ice. If the power goes out it can take some time (possibly days) to restore. Hopefully it will not go out, but if the site and I disappear that is why.

Ice = not good for power. I hope you stay connected, but most of all, stay safe.

As the jet stream is weakening, the cold storms will spread to the entire high-latitude northern hemisphere. Here in S. Korea we also expect a lot of snow together with severe cold storm during the weekend. It is already very cold. But no chance of power outage.

Here in central Texas it's going to be 49 degrees and still the snow stays north. We should start getting snow in Feb.

Snow started around 3 o'clock AM today (Saturday here), and will continue until Tuesday morning. I have never experienced snows in 3 consecutive days. I managed to drive to my office. Most cars could not climb to the campus.

Yep....
I got a snowmobile sitting, unused for four years, in my back yard because the snow isn't enough to run on.
Nuts,
Jen

30C with a UV index of 13 here. Sunburn occurs after 10 mins exposure!

While driving from the campus to home, I saw just a few cars and buses. Children were sliding over the snow in plastic sleighs.

All flights are cancelled as the snow deteriorated air visibility. About 4,500 passengers are stranded at Jeju International airport, and my friend from the mainland could not come here today afternoon. Gust and snow continue throughout the night, and I got a cold.
And, my son, now in Maryland, USA, sent a video clip showing a similar situation there.

It is still gusty, but will be above the freezing point within 12 hours.
