Title: Happy Australia Day
Post by: Cindy on January 25, 2016, 01:47:11 AM
The 26 of Jan is Australia day, I always have mixed emotions as I respect the indigenous population that has been disenfranchised from their country. I am also blessed to have many transgender Aboriginal friends who I love and admire and I deeply respect their bravery and their culture.

For some reason the marketing of Lamb as the food to be eaten on the Aussie BBQ has become a tradition. Why I do not know; I eat meat in moderate amounts and I dislike lamb, I rather like the cute little things bouncing in the fields.

But I found this promotion amusing - and apologies to vegans and vegetarians, it was meant as a joke (I hope!)

For any ex-pat Aussies, Happy Aussie Day.

The Queen of Denmark is an Aussie woman from Tasmania (which may explain something).

Not eating lamb on Australia day is, apparently, unAustralian!

I found this interesting article... 'UnAustralian' is a lazy insult that really needs to be retired (http://www.smh.com.au/comment/unaustralian-is-a-lazy-insult-that-really-needs-to-be-retired-20160124-gmcsnv.html)...

Made me want to compose a new unNational Anthem...

"unAustralians let us all rejoice
For we are full of beer
We've killer snakes and lots of sharks
So eff off Germaine Greer!
Mumble mumble, something about kangaroos,
Oi, Oi, Oi,
Advance Australia Unfair, Oi, Oi, Oiiiiiiii"

Does Australia have a Poet Laureate? Maybe you should apply!

It's a burden, but someone must bear it.

Love the "unanthem".   I do think many Australians have lost their sense of humour these days, i thought that ad was funny and couldn't believe the complaints they got about it.

Happy Australia Day, wherever you may be

My neighbours always have lambs, makes them pretty hard to eat when you see them playing everyday. They almost as cool as baby goats (kids)

I think Grace you mean "it's a burden but someone must drop bear it".

I almost added "drop bear" into my lyrics... but then realised it didn't rhyme with "beer"...

Maybe instead of those cute little lambs you should try a turkey.

Lee Lin Chin's Australia Day 'Lambassador' Role Undermines Public Broadcaster (https://newmatilda.com/2016/01/23/lee-lin-chins-lambassador-role-undermines-public-broadcaster/)
This isn't about being able to take a joke. I found some parts of the ad funny. I also found some parts of it – especially the "love it or leave it" (read: culturally assimilate or get faarked) sentiments – incredibly offensive...
Perhaps Chin's role in the controversial ad doesn't equate to her supporting the national meat lobby. Perhaps it doesn't follow that she agrees with an aggressive assimilation policy or doesn't understand why the arrival of the first fleet is not met with celebration from all Australians.
But the point is, her role in the ad could certainly be perceived as such. And herein lies the problem.

'Operation Boomerang' lamb ad insults Indigenous people, say critics (http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2016/jan/11/operation-boomerang-lamb-ad-insults-indigenous-people-say-critics)
The Australia Day-themed lamb commercial starring Lee Lin Chin has come under fire for depicting a military campaign called "Operation Boomerang" on what is considered a day of anger and mourning for many Indigenous people.

Happy Australia Day everyone!  Hope you all had a lovely day.

Weather was beautiful in Syndey (mostly).  I had a sausage in bread and a cold beer at this amazing pub my friend suggested - it wasn't even crowded!

Not sure what rock I've been hiding under, but I haven't seen that ad until now!

I went to a craft beer pub for lunch, tasted all sorts of beers. Then had a bbq for dinner and topped it off with a sundae from mcdonalds. I did end up eating a lamb chop. Sorry lambies!

Then again when I came to Aus from Liverpool no one could understand a word I said, so I'll leave accents alone. ;D
