Title: Research into T for TS MtF
Post by: TheBattler on October 09, 2007, 04:56:29 AM
Hi everyone,

Yes I am still looking for options but I am more likly now to face fact and start HRT (I will put up a blog soon about my Sydney trip).

Can anyone point me to research into what Male Hormones do to a MtF TS Person?
Has anyone tried Tesosterone as a way of putting of transistion?

Thanks

Alice

Hi, Alice,

Could you please restate your question?  I am not sure that I understand it.  If you are M to F, I cannot see where testosterone has anything to do with transitioning M to F.

Perhaps there is something in the Wiki that will answer your question, or maybe TS Roadmap, if it's still on the web.

I hope that this helps.

If I wanted to delay or stop transistion - would T be effective in stopping any urges?

Alice,

There is plenty of  literature available both here at Susan's (Wiki) and on the internet regarding the effects of cross sex hormones on MTF TS.

There is also plenty of research done both on the effectiveness and contr-indications of this type of therapy, again just google and you will get.

I think I know where your going with regard to the T-Question, the addition of extra Testosterone into any Male body is not recommended, it has a number of effects, increased aggression, anger and sexual arousal to name but a few. Not something any (potential) MTF, would wish to happen. That added to the potential for greater hair loss, increased risk of Male Cancers (prostate, Testicular)is not something I would recommend.

Testosterone has been used as a means of "treating" Hommosexuality in days gone past, before it was understood it was counter productive.

If you want to put off transition, look for other means, keep occupied, get on with your triathlons, keep focused, but in the end as I said in chat, it may just delay the inevitable.

Hi,
I don't know if this is valid or not, as I was exposed to DES while my mom was pregnant with me.  (This leads to a messed-up hypothalamus, among other things.)

But, about three years ago, I tried some T as an offset to taking Premarin for my "issues".  I didn't want to feminize at that time, and the doctor gave me both to see how it would work.

It was a disaster.  I felt totally messed up with the T.  My moods were all over the map, I would get mad easily and throw things, in essence it generally messed everything up.  I discontinued the T, lowered the Premarin dosage, and things were WONDERFUL.

So I don't think it works.  I did A LOT of research on this, and no one that I found EVER had any luck with using T to delay things.

In third world countries they still inject homosexuals and m->f transgendered individuals with testosterone and it has yet to kill the communities. They just learn to hide better.

No. Besides, THE URGES AREN'T WRONG! They aren't meant to be "cured." They're not shameful!

For what it's worth, my pre-HRT T level was 800 at age 41... which is pretty darn high.

You see how well that worked for me ;)

Everything points to T making your dysphoria WORSE if you're really TS.  You're taking your hormonal balance and body further away from what your mind knows it should be.  If you want to reduce the dysphoric feelings without forcing yourself into transition then anti-androgens might be the way forwards.

There is NO magic fix and going in the exact opposite direction won't do your mental state any good at all...

I hate to say it hun, but this sounds to me like another way to avoid being TS (if going on T did help would you ever want to come off it?).  You need to start slowly embracing your feelings until you reach your own personal comfort zone, wherever that may be.

Thanks everyone.

My dad said her will support me any way but wanted to know of T would help.

I doubt it and will not try unless I find some proof that it does work.

Plus I am a girl. Why would I want more T.

I believe that you've received some sage advice.  Making a hormone cocktail inside of you can cause severe, possibly permanent health problems and irreversible damages.

Just parroting wisdom greater than mine.

I agree Andra.......

I know someone who actually went backwards and after several years of being TS.....they went back and started taking T Shots as they couldn't face being read and thought it best to live as a male. After a while they became more depressed and suicidal and stopped the shots emmediately. Last time I heard they were back on HRT.....
