Transgender bill fails in the Washington State Senate

KAPPTV/By  Kierra Elfalan.  Published Thursday, February 11th, 2016

"A bill that would overturn a rule allowing transgender people in Washington to use the bathroom and other public facilities of the gender they identify with, has failed in the Washington State Senate.

However it was close, one more vote and the bill would have passed.

Washington State Senator Doug Ericksen of Ferndale, who sponsored the bill said the Human Rights Commission should not have the right to issue this rule."

Whew!  That was a close one!  But Washington ladies can still pee in peace . . .

A little surprised by this, but I knew we had nothing to worry about since the state house wouldn't have allowed it to happen anyway. Hugs

This was going  be a comment and became an essay.

Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights."

I did read the full quote of this gentleman:

Washington State Senator Doug Ericksen of Ferndale, who sponsored the bill said the Human Rights Commission should not have the right to issue this rule."

I take issue; Human Rights are not to be decided by an individual, particularly with an individual who displays bias.

Human rights are Universal - even if you as an individual, or a nation, disagree with a point. Human Rights are hard issues. You don't torture people. No you don't - no matter the circumstance. You accept human beings as equal, even if you don't like a person or a group. You work around it.

If someone or a group give up their human rights as in criminality or 'un-just' war, then they are still treated as humans - with human rights.

So how do we discuss transgender or intersex people in the context of human rights?

It is well known and scientifically proved the gender identity is complex. If a person with an XY karyotype identifies as female. They are female. If an XX karyotype person identifies as male, they are male. If a person identifies as neither male or female they are non-binary

To read an article on this see Nature Vol 518. Feb 2015 page 288.

If you deny a man or woman from using the bathroom to excrete waste matter, that we all produce, it is against this:
'All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.'

Where is the dignity in forcing a transman to use a female toilet? Where is the dignity in forcing a transwoman to use a male toilet?

I know I talk to the converted, but in Australia this has not been an issue. I have not heard of one single case of a pervert dressing as female or male to access a toilet to systematically 'insult' men or women.

The press would be over it like a rash.

Schools. OK I helped develop a safe school policy in South Australia where transkids can use the change room, or toilet of their identified gender. Yes we found some schools, mainly in socio-economic deprived areas had a high incident of bullying TG children.

We move them to a safe school, and it wasn't the kids, it was the parents influencing their children. The sins of the father's syndrome maybe?

There has been no issues. Yes it needs sensitive moderation, but to be honest it has not been difficult. We have one full time person in the education department managing the issue. She is taking on other duties as it isn't an issue that occupies her.

The schools have been fine, indeed the Roman Catholic schools have lead the way in acceptance and development of policy - which surprised me.

The issue of fear: The USA has been an incredible melting pot of people from so many societies.

The English, Irish. Polish, Asians, name them. Everyone has been discriminated against at some time.

Australia is the same. Wipe out the native population, call it your land and populate with migrants.

But we now have different migrants. We have gender migrants. We have been among you for ever, hidden and scared. But we are now surfacing.

When I migrated as a young thing (23!) from the UK to Australia, I was so lonely. Don't want to go back there!

People eventually accepted my broad Scouse accent. They had troubles with that originally, blank stares and whausay? Funny they had no troubles with me in a dress.

So where does that leave us?

Firstly a post that may become a News article, but also a comment from the 'trenches'.

Human Rights are Trans Rights.

What does that mean!!

Article one of the Human Rights Commission: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

Why is that a issue? Ye we are 'ruled' by a different generation - even to me. Ye my Dad had grenade fragments, fought for some useless bridge in Holland, sacrificed.

Survived.

He died long ago

We have brave people fighting now in some war somewhere, dying, and crying; and they are only 19.

We live.

How do we stand up for our rights? How do we change these silly misconceptions?

You do what you do here. You write a letter an email. You tell the facts.

We should not cower in hope that someone else will stand up. Those who do stand up need that support.

I read the comment above from a State Senator of the USA, it was stupid.

Politics is a game of pressure. Apply it.

They had less trouble with my gender.
