Today I wa talking about one of my favorite drink; Bloody Mary. Then the guy told me I was a girl for drinking that drink. I thought that was a universal drink.
Anyway my preference includes this: wine, Vodka + Diet Mountain Dew (reminds me of Lana Del Rey), diet sodas mix with vodka.
Is there connection to gender and drinking preferences?

It's a cocktail, I suppose certain cocktails are considered drinks for ladies. I love a bloody mary, though. Screw what anyone thinks.
I worked in a bar once, I noticed women tended to prefer fruit cocktails and sweet alcopops or liqueurs more than men did, but not like it was very predictable what people would drink. I've seen guys polish off the Bacardi breezers and Smirnoff Ice and I've seen girls going for it on the lager and the vodka/red bull. And then there was the Hoegaarden that nobody would drink.

On the day i started HRT to celebrate i went out to lunch and asked the tender for the most "girlie" drink i could order. His recommendation was a "Lemon Drop", so i had two. Tastes like lemonade.

Absinthe. The old fashioned way with some distilled water and a sugar cube.
Or a vodka martini so dirty it gets kicked out of strip clubs.
But I tend to drink very little as it promotes poor health and transitioning or not, a healthy body is a happy body.

I think people can be classified by their choice in alcohol about as much as they can by the car their favorite color (mine is red or black, BTW).
I prefer vodka, tequila, Scotch, and various whiskeys. I've never been fond of sweet "girly" drinks and I can't stand wine.

Fire Cracker! 1 1/4 oz of rye whiskey, fill tall glass with crushed ice, add cranberry juice and sugar to taste. Cranberry juice is good for the urinary tract ladies!!
Screwdrivers are great too!
Love,

Slivovitz (basically Balkan plum moonshine) is my poison, arak (high-proof grape alcohol flavored with aniseed) is a close second. That being said, I've had to tone it down because I'm on HRT.

Apple and Pear ciders are going fantastically in Australia at the moment with good choices and high quality product. Apparently there is some tax advantage for these over some other alcohol varieties.
Loving the James Squire Apple Crush on tap or Bulmers and Magners if available. For spirits I lean towards Cointreau with mixers.
I've drunk and enjoyed beers on and off but always had the problem of guys in the group drinking like fish and wanting everyone to do rounds. Since I started drinking less/sometimes none with excuses like "training for a marathon" I've become a cheap date and 2 drinks then 1 an hour is usually enough.
Australian drinking culture even among middle class professionals is so blokey that even drinking a light beer or grabbing a water or soft drink between rounds can get you labeled a "bit of a girl" .

Back then, before Hormones and before coming out to Family/Friends..I used to drink Crown Royal with my Brother In Law. we'd play the Wii Golf and have 3-5 Crown and Cokes before Dinner (Keep in mind I'm a Social Drinker only so if nothing is going on in the family or with Friends, I Never Drink)....
Fast Forward....
Today, over 8 months on Hormones, they DO have an effect with Alcohol and can cause issues. Your Liver is already working hard so why make it work harder?
Last get-together we all had...we played Golf on the Wii and I had 3 Glasses of Red Wine the ENTIRE day. Oh, I felt it.
I have a boxed bottle of Crown Royal in the cabinet that I bought over a year ago, untouched. lol
I wonder who will drink that? I sure won't. :)

I don't drink much, but when I do my preferences are red wine, champagne, apple cider and (only very occasionally) beer. It all depends on how thirsty I am and the mood I'm in. Many years ago at university I used to drink scotch for a while but I can't stand the taste of spirits now.

Ahaha.. I'm not out at work and my industry involves manufacturing. I sat down Friday night with a group of straight men (work related), all 45+ years old, I'm the youngest, clean shaven, they're rocking beards. They order beer and JD and coke..
I look at the waitress and say, "I'll take a screwdriver." LOL.. Their faces.. Next drink was a lemon drop and then they REALLY started looking. And then finished off the night with 4 Raspberry Kamakaze's which next to a lemon drop is my absolute favorite. What's fun about these "girly" drinks is the fact that their incredibly strong and they taste amazing. :)

In addition to beer, Wisconsin is known for a massive consumption of brandy (usually in a proper old fashioned) as well as extravagant bloody Mary's. Example: http://sobelmanspubandgrill.com/menu/
Odd what makes people attach gender to beverage choice.
An old friend bartended in Australia 20 years ago, he said he couldn't put a stir in drinks if it was for a guy. They were offended by it.

Laiphroig single malt, preferably special distill.
Best pick up line I have had when I was visiting Grace and Catherine in Sydney.
'I have always wanted to meet a woman who can order a $50 single malt'
My reply. ''I like to meet men who can buy them for me"
We had a lovely dinner together.

I can't drink liquor of any sort, since they make me sick just smelling them. You can try to cover up the taste all you want and I will still react terribly to them.
Beer is okay, but most of the popular types are just tasteless garbage. Some local craft beer can be pretty good, though. I'll drink most kinds of beer with the exception of IPA or generic commercial crap. I'm not too picky otherwise, but I don't care enough to drink beer often either.
Wine is probably my favorite, but I'm picky. I'll drink some whites (usually just gewürztraminer), but I dislike most of them. Sweet reds are just disgusting, especially dessert wines and ports. Dry reds are just heavenly to me, and tempranillo is my absolute favorite. I'll usually just have wine when I feel like I really deserve it.
Tea is way better, though. Alcohol is overrated.

I haven't drank any alcohol since 1986. However.......
....I do make wine, for cooking. I have some, er, unique dry reds in my cellar. Wild blackberry, pomegranate, chokecherry, and sumac to name a few. I have a lot of dry whites, pineapple, pear, mango, apple, green tea/ginger and there is also a bunch of bochet, or burnt honey mead. Again, I don't drink a drop of it, but I love making it!

I drank much more a few years ago than I do any more. That being said I prefer my drink match my food and/or mood.
Gin & tonic
Jamaican 10-speed
Dirty vodka martini, extra olives
Screwdriver
Corpse reviver #2
Almost anything with gin or vodka
Guiness
Cider
Most any kind of stout
Any other beer that goes with my food
Any and all wine. Again depends on my food and/or mood.

Interesting post and question. I recall being mocked for wanting a strawberry daiquiri, when my male co-workers ordered beer once. One guy said to me "do you want a tampon with that ?", crude I know, but I remember this so well.
After I started HRT, I became a complete lightweight and can't drink very much without having a bad reaction, so I just don't (not never), just don't.

wow, this topic popped up from the past. Who said time travel isn't possible?
In my very youthful days, rum and coke but not for long, too dry. No beer, no wine, no champagne .. yuuch!
I switched to Black Velvet and coke very early. That was my go to drink for many years. Social drinking mostly. I dislike getting drunk (loss of control) I think now that 'loss of control' was a subconscious fear of what might come out. I was still buried and lying to myself back then.
Over the years to now I've switched to Black Velvet and Squirt (or wink) any grapefruit based soda. two drink max per evening. At home, Gin and tonic when I want to relax and unwind. One stiff drink will put me to bed.
no fruity drinks, too sweet

My opinion, in a word, is no. I have presented, in public, as a man all my life, fyi, but I also tended toward what might be considered "girly" drinks by some. Rum and Coke has been a goto for me for years, but also screwdrivers (not so much these days, but there was a time...), mudslides. Sweet and tasty is nice, to me. Shots, generally not so much (although there was a time back in college with tequila, but I digress), unless it's a shot of some kind of liqueur.
A friend of mine invented a drink years ago which I do love - it probably exists out there under some other name, but we called it a Brown Russian. Irish Creme, Vodka, Rum, and Hot Chocolate. Love it.

Anyway my preference includes this: wine, Vodka + Diet Mountain Dew (reminds me of Lana Del Rey), diet sodas mix with vodka.
Is there connection to gender and drinking preferences?
OK Late the thread!
My response: "Could be!"
I wouldn't engage the comment, but leave open the possibility that how I present in public, may not yet completely line up to who I am. (A Trans Woman.)

Back then, before Hormones and before coming out to Family/Friends..I used to drink Crown Royal with my Brother In Law.
Fast Forward....
Today, over 8 months on Hormones, they DO have an effect with Alcohol and can cause issues. Your Liver is already working hard so why make it work harder?
This is why I chose the patch.
I do enough damage to my liver in other ways. Thank You!
