Title: Having my FFS with DiMaggio!
Post by: KarmaGirl on February 12, 2016, 03:20:07 PM
So happy about this! I have been waiting for things to look up financially and now it's really going to happen!

After many months (and lurking around the net for a few years), I have decided that Dr. DiMaggio is the best for my own personal needs
I have a TYPE III forehead, and I believe he'll be aggressive enough to handle it efficiently.

A big THANK YOU to all of you and especially Janicshe who pointed me in his direction.

I had a brilliant conversation with him, and I didn't feel that he was upselling me or trying hard compliment me in hopes of getting more out of it.  He was very very informative and polite.  He told what he could or couldn't do with my face and set realistic goals for my surgery. And it was nice he didn't charge for the consult.

I pass pretty well, but my face has been such a dysphoric part of my life that I can't wait to see what will happen.

I'm also looking forward to visiting Argentina!

I'll keep everyone posted as I get closer to the surgery date.

Thanks for all your support and advice!
Cheers!

Congrats! :icon_dance: From the results I've seen, he's a very talented surgeon. Looking forward to hearing about your experience if you decide to share. :)

My congratulations too.

IMHO Dr DiMaggio and Facial Team are the two top FFS practices.

Looking forward to seeing your result.

Well ladies, the date is set!!

I will be going to Argentina to have FFS with Dr. DiMaggio in Buenos Aires!  I started my journey 4 1/2 years or so, and I have to say I couldn't stop thinking about FFS (especially after seeing one of my mentors new face).

I was going to see Dr. Ousterhout but didn't beat him to his retirement. I wasn't 100% about his protoge', since I couldn't get enough information. I'm sure he's great, but I'm happy with my decision.
I feel Dr. DiMaggio shares the same aggressive techniques that I need. But, that's just me.

I'll be going for most of May, since my wife and I decided that I might as well have some fun before and a little after my operations.  I'll be getting a little mid face lift since I'm a little older than most, just to give me a "youthful boost".

I have my wife to thank for my new face, since her company was bought by another HUGE one and she was able to cash in some of her stock options for this endeavor! I feel so blessed to have such an amazing spouse. She's has never let me down. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for her support and love.

I'm a little nervous, but after seeing the work he's done, and doing more than a little research, I think (for me) he's perfect.  He answered ALL my questions, and truly seemed to care about this transformation. He's been holding our hands while we booked the apartment, and flights.  A lot more than some would do.

I'm trying not to think too much on it.  I've always wanted to visit Argentina and love the culture there. It reminds me of some of the European cities I have visited.  I'll take some pics for "show and tell".

I'm still shy about posting my face, but who knows, maybe after the op I won't be as shy (besides, who needs to be attached to any facial recognition).

Glad to hear you've finalised the date :-)
I understand you'll be staying i BsAs for some weeks so having company is excellent.
The city is very European in style and it's huge.

Say hello to MDM and the team from me.

Wish you all the best.

I've had a bit of a cold and haven't had the chance to thank everyone! So THANK YOU.

Jan was kind enough to guide me through a few things, so thanks Jan!

My wife and I are really looking forward to this trip.  We have a few days before the first meeting and a few days after the last check up before I come back.  We figured we had spent a bit to get there we might as well enjoy it.  Plus I wanted my face to heal and go down a bit before scaring anyone on the plane. Lol

My wife's family are a mix of East Coast Americans that ended up in Peru after the Korean War (they were stationed there and loved it). And the other side are Italians that also ended up there, so her Spanish is impeccable. Mine is ok, so Argentina shouldn't be too hard to get around.  I'm also hoping to at least dance the Tango once...well, I should say learn to dance the Tango, then dance. Lol

I'm trying not to think too much about it.  I have to say that I have VERY supportive friends as well, but some are scared that my face will look too different.  I understand their concern.  One of them even asked my spouse if it would make a difference if I came back with a different face...if she would love me the same... which kinda hurt my feelings. I'm not exactly sure why it bothered me, but it did.
I was reminded by her, that nothing has changed through my 5 or so year transition. I am so loved and so thankful.  I am constantly reminded how lucky I truly am.
The rest of my friends, are just so impressed with the changes I had on HRT that some don't think I need FFS. But, I'm afraid my facial Dysphoria is the strongest.  Luckily, my therapist thinks it's ok and understands why I want this.

I've never made a Transition Video. I've wanted to, but I've been a bit of a chicken. I know I really can't go stealth because I've lived long enough to have a history out there in internet land. I wonder if my new face will change that. Either way, I've been documenting my changes, and keeping a Diary which I have been ignoring since my life is quite "normal" as a woman now.  I think the hardest part for me was going through that puberty stage, when I didn't know if I was "there" yet. Eventually that changed when people began to perceive me as a female and using the right pronouns without me saying a word. It still blows my mind occasionally when I look at my reflection in a store window and see my true self.

Oh God, I've gone and rambled everyone to sleep now. Lol

I guess the cough medicine helped...or not.

Again, thank you for your kind words.

I'll keep everyone posted as things begin to take place.

Cheers!

My dear,

I am lucky as you are on this, my spouse supports me also from the beginning... five years back or so... she has been comprehensive and loving all time, and if we thought once to separate in the early times of my transition, just after I came out of the closet, we realized shortly that it was impossible since it would have be a major wound for all of us, including our 20 y.o. son, so we decided to stay together, leaving sex aside, and taking care of the strong ties that bind us for decades..

She's very rich, but not of money ..

You and I have diamonds at home ...

My best congratulations for your coming FFS, it will boost your transition ahead...

Okay, despite my happiness, I admit, I'm getting nervous about my trip and FFS.

Do any of you on here; that have had FFS, have ANY advice for this? I leave on April 28th...it's getting closer.

I don't have any regrets. I just keep thinking about ...oh you know THE PAIN. lol   And also I think "what if I spend all this money, and I look like a gorilla?"  >:-)

I keep going to DiMaggio website and it's amazing the work he does. My male friends could not tell the girls were not CIS gender.  They even said they'd ask a few for dates! I guess that's a good sign?

My friends are saying things like "Oh I hope they don't mess too much with your face. You have a pretty face, why would you do all that?"  They don't understand of course, but yeah, it affects me in several ways.

I'd love to hear from those of you who have dealt with the jitters.

Thanks for the kind words and help!

It is a scary process, and since I have an anxiety disorder, it's a bit terrifying for me, but focusing on the results instead of the procedure is helpful for me, and it's also helpful if I focus on the fact that I am in good health, and that I exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet, plus knowing that I had a pre surgery physical with normal lab results and a normal EKG; and trusting your surgeon is extremely important as well; also, keep a positive attitude and know that everything will go as expected with no complications.  Please keep us updated; and best wishes for amazing results 😊

What procedures will you do?
FFS is a dream for us, that many doctors do not understand . Good luck. Eager to see your photos. kisses

Hello all.

I went to get my pre op studies done.  I've had these before, and all has always come out right. BUT, this time there seemed to be something different. I was tested twice, and they found a little glitch. They said that they wanted more tests done, because this last test showed some sort of Heart Disease POSSIBLY.  WHAT? How could that happen in only a few months???
So, I go in tomorrow for more tests.  In hopes of finding out whether it IS or ISN'T that.

I'm set to leave to Buenos Aires, Argentina on Tuesday.  But, if things are not what they should be, I'll be REALLLLYYY hating life.   I've always come out HEALTHY and not only that, but I've tested as someone younger! (meaning I have the body and health of a 25 year old).

I'm hoping this is something that won't get in the way of my FFS.  It's just weird.  I feel good.  Great in fact.

So this has been a downer for me.

My health is more important than FFS, but yeah, it would be nice to get it done.... and on schedule too.  We contorted our schedules and lives for this trip.

I hope you all will keep me in your hopes and thoughts.

And as usual, thanks for your support.

Good luck and hoping that your glitch is simply that and is sorted by now.I had similar problems-I have a left bundle branch block on my ecg which can be a signifier of heart disease but after an excercise cardiac echo it was found to be not  related to underlying disease. It was still worrying so I can empathise with what you are going through.I went with Bart van de Ven who doesnt seem overpopular on this forum-Facial team seem to be flavour of the month.Being realistic about what can be achieved  and understanding how strange it is to have a sometimes radically different face look back in the mirror might be worth keeping in mind.Post op pain for me wasnt an issue but I was so totally exhausted by the op(over 7 hours) and it did take a long time to recover my energy even if I was back at work 4 weeks later.

Well, I got the news the other day that I DO NOT have Heart Disease! YAY!!!!!!  It was just a glitch.

Tomorrow morning I will be on my way to Buenos Aires Argentina to get my FFS!!  I can't believe it!

We found some great deals and we were able to get first class tickets at a discount, so I'll be able to rest well in the fold out chairs. I'm tall and when I have travelled before it's been a pain for me since they pack you in like sardines.

I'll be revealing my before and afters and possibly even doing a little vlog...although I"m a little chicken over that. LOL

I wanted to thank all of you, that have been keeping up with me, and sending me all your good vibes.

If any of you have questions while I am there let me know, just remember, that I will be recovering and may not be able to respond right away.

I'm hoping I'll look as nice as some of the beautiful ladies on DiMaggio's before and after page!

Thanks for your support!
HUGS!

Hi everyone!

Well, we made it to Argentina!  I was able to get a good amount of sleep on the plane too, so I'm not so exhausted.

We were picked up at the Airport by a driver who was the nicest person!  So far, I love what I see.

We ended up getting a nice apartment for the month via AB&B. The Apartment is very clean and in one of the better neighborhoods in the city.  They view is nice from the balcony too.

The people here seem nice. They actually say "Hello" to you when you walk down the street!  I'm tall, so I thought I would stick out like a sore thumb, but there are a lot of tall people here so I blend in well.

Dr. DiMaggio has been in contact via email and texting. We have global roaming on our phone so it doesn't cost us anything to text him while we are here. There are other Apps that he uses in case you might not have Global roaming.

His assistant has been on top of EVERYTHING for us.  I was surprised how on top of things she's been!  That is a good thing.

There are a lot of great places to eat nearby. It is a very progressive city and doesn't "feel" the way some people were describing it...as a 3rd world country.  It reminds me a little of Europe.

Transportation here is great. They have a bus and trains in most of the city.  The taxis are okay, just don't try taking an UBER since they are in a FIGHT right now with the Taxi services.  It's even gotten somewhat violent between the Taxi drivers and Uber drivers.

I feel welcomed and at home already.

I am going to see Dr. DiMaggio at 4pm Argentine time. We'll be discussing the procedures and anything else we need.  I have a week and some to prep for anything.

My nerves are a little nutty, but I'm dealing with it.  I'm trying NOT to think of things too much.

I still can't believe we are here.

I'll be posting pics of the area and neighborhood. And of course pics of the Doc and where he works out of for those of you that wanted more info on him.

I hope this helps some of you that have been wanting to get their FFS with him.

THANKS so much for all of your support.

Cheers! ;D

My meeting with Dr. DiMaggio...

After we settled in to our area and apartment, we were contacted by DiMaggio's lovely assistant Ximena. She spoke fluent English and made sure we had all our paperwork ready for him, including questions.

We took a Taxi there and made friends with the driver who ended up giving us his private number so that we could use him again.  He told us that UBER was a failure down here.  I could care less about that, since my head was somewhere else.  Either way, it was nice of him.

On the way there, we got a mini sight seeing tour from the driver. He said Buenos Aires was generally safe but that it was a big city and just to be aware of your surroundings.
When we informed him of the Hospital we were going to, he said it was one of the best in South America!  So that's a good thing.

We finally got the to Hospital.   It was very secure with guards everywhere and had metal detectors at all entrance/exit points.

We were greeted by Ximena.  Apparently, everyone kisses on the cheeks here...even if you don't know them. ESPECIALLY women.  So, I did one of those awkward do-I-kiss-you-now moves. After we giggled a bit, she asked how our trip went, and if we liked what we saw do far of Argentina.  So far, so good I told her.  I know this sounds silly but I never expected the Hospital to be so modern and stylish.  It was really nice.

We got to the waiting area and she sat down with us, making sure I wasn't too nervous ( I wasn't).  They called us in (my wife was with me), and Dr. DiMaggio opened the door.  He was a little on the serious side at first, but the thing that made me skip a beat was that he was just STARING at me for awhile. Which made me wonder what was going through his mind. He shook my hand and just stared. LOL

So DiMaggio says, "I'm glad you came in today. I can see that we may not need to do certain things."

Me: Huh? What does that mean?

Dr. M: Well, you looked older in your pics and already as I've been analyzing your face, I can see that it doesn't need some of the work we talked about via Skype."

Me: I guess that is good?

Dr. M:  Yes, good for your pocket.
We all laughed. And I felt a little better after that initial staring session.

Me: So what do I need?

Dr M: Well, I can see your concern regarding your brow and your nose. But the other things like the chin and even your adams apple, I wouldn't worry about. That would be optional.  I would lipo under your chin though and maybe a little lift after that procedure so you wouldn't have any excess skin after the lipo but, it's not going to be that hard getting you where you want.

I have to admit, I was expecting him to up sell me, as I have heard that many of these FFS doctors do. I remember going to see Dr. Ousterhout, one of the pros in the business and he seemed like he was always up selling me.  He was my number one surgeon but I couldn't afford him.  What got me interested in Dr. DiMaggio was the fact that Dr. Ousterhout had mentioned only a few had his style of doing FFS and DiMaggio was one of them.  I have a type III brow and I needed someone that could deal with that.  That's when I kept an eye out for DiMaggio's work.

So, now I'm actually saving some money!  He told me that estrogen had been good to me (I've been in fem for 5 years).  He said he liked it when women gave the Estrogen a chance to do it's work. I told him that it was due to finances more than anything else. I couldn't afford it before. If not, I would have wanted to get it YESTERDAY. Lol

Then we went on to look at my boobies. And again, I was surprised by his comments. He said, that my boobs were fine, and that taking my estrogen for so long was a good thing because my boobs were of reasonable size. He did say that (and this is common) my areola was positioned a little lower than most cis gender women. He said he could reposition them and maybe add a cup size but that it really wasn't needed.  Truthfully, I'm not sure I want anything touching my boobies because I like that they are sensitive and since I already have a wife that loves me with or without boobs, I decided NOT to get implants.  Okay, so I'm saving more money every minute I chat with this Doctor!

Then came the DANGERS of Surgery...
Well, you can just imagine, all the things that could go wrong.  I'm not going to put it on here, I'll let all of you check those things out for yourselves.  But yeah, it's scary what can go wrong.

Then came EXPECTATIONS...

*Don't expect to "see" your final results in a day, week, month, months, or even year!

*Your face will change as it heals.

*Everyone heals different

*To get a glimpse of your true face you should give you face time to heal, and that would mean almost a year! (I know this seems like a long time but I know what he means. I have a friend who had FFS and her face has changed in the 5 years I've known her...all for the better of course.)

So, all-in-all, I was happy with the consult before we go in for surgery.  And admittedly, very surprised by his honesty regarding what I needed and what I really didn't need.  I never expected to actually save money on this trip, since I came with a little extra in case I decided to get more done.

Some of you has asked me why Dr. DiMaggio?  Well, I think I've posted this before, but I think it's because he is so aggressive with Type III foreheads mostly.  I don't think he's the ONLY one out there. But for me, it's what I felt was needed. Now, that I've met him in person, I feel even more confident with my choice!

And for those of you that wanted me to post pics....well, I'm still on the fence with that, BUT I understand that it's important to a lot of you out there who want to know more about the process and for those sitting on the fence with who you should go with.  Like I've said before, there are a lot of great FFS doctors out there and it's really up to you to decide.

I'm not necessarily recommending Dr. DiMaggio here.  I'm just letting you know how things have been, and will be, concerning my OWN case.

In general Buenos Aires is a very European flavored city. It reminds me a lot of Spain and certain areas of Lima Peru as well.  The exchange rate is in our favor (for USA peeps).

I have a couple of weeks before my surgery and we've booked some tours of the city. Maybe I'll post some of those pics as well.

So far so good.

Glad to hear your consultation turned out well.

Take care

I've heard a lot of good things about Dr Dimaggio but some people say the hair line incision doesn't heal very well and that he doesn't really do chin/jaw work even though he charges for it? I'm not sure if this is true though? I have type 3 forehead and would like to go to him, but flying frightens me and I'd have to go all along, ect so I'm not too sure.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks everyone (and PAULA1) for your support!
Claw, I would recommend just taking a look at his website and talking to him via SKYPE.  I can't recommend him yet, since I haven't had surgery.  I will be having mine this coming Monday.  I'll be doing the first part on May 9th and the second on the 16th.  It'll be easier on me.  HOWEVER, I can't say I'm calm about it all.  In fact, I've been getting a few little anxiety spells here and there.  It's not so much because of him, but, because of the fact, I lost a relative of mine who spent most of their life in the hospital.  So, I am not keen on Hospitals in general. This has nothing to do with him.

As far as foreheads go, I think he really does a great job (based on his website). He also does a great job around the orbital rim/eye region. That, was the primary reason I wanted to go to him for.

I felt the others were really good, but not as aggressive.  Again, that's just my opinion.  I showed my male friends pics of women from his website ( didn't tell them they were Trans) and none of my friends picked ANY of the women as being Trans. I thought that was a good indicator. When I ended up telling them the girls on his site were Trans, many jaws dropped.

As I said, there are MANY GREAT Doctors out there.  It's just a matter of doing your research and really trying to figure out what your needs are. For some, it's more about the money. For others, it's more about the end result. And for others it can be a little of both.

Once I'm healed from my op, I'll be able to jump in here again, and let you know if I think the end result was worth it. I understand that nothing can be 100% perfect. But, I sure can try to get as close to that as I can.  In the end, I know there might be a little tweaking to do; once the swelling goes down. Or, I can be happy with what I'm left with. ;D

I don't have a masculine jawline, so there's not that much to do.  It's just a matter of fine tuning things.

I really liked, that he didn't push anything on me, and in fact, said I didn't need a few things.

Keep me in your hopes,  prayers and/or meditations!

Cheers to all my lovely sisters on here!

Hi KarmaGirl ...  :)

Wish I knew your real name but maybe it is ....  ;) ;)

You are welcome honey.

This forum is great and replaces the once wonderful Yahoo FFS Support.

May I wish you a very successful outcome on Monday and on the 16th.

You are in great hands and Facial Team and Dr DiMaggio are my favourite surgeons ( in no particular order ).

I will be thinking of you on Monday and will say a little prayer for you.

Have a restful Sunday, you will be fine.

Hugs

Paula

I really am considering him as i believe he is very aggressive with type 3 forehead work and his price is really good, not over inflated like most US doctors who aren't even craniofacial surgeons! I look forward to your result!
Good luck and I'm keep you in my prayers for a wonderful and smooth recovery!

Hi KarmaGirl!
Wish you best of luck with your surgery! I'm here in BA recovering from my FFS with MDM, I had surgery in two steps, huge work, forehead/nose and then jaw, chin and a complete deep layer facelift. I'm 2 resp. 1 week post-op now and still pretty swollen, but super happy with MDM's work so far. He's been very aggressive, unfortunately in my case it was inevitable. Care with Ximena and all the others is outstanding, so even though every case is individual you'll be in good hands. Enjoy lovely Buenos Aires.  ;D

I have the same fears as you ha!  I also read a couple anecdotes, probably the same ones as you on ->-bleeped-<-, that he didn't alter the mandible enough.  I also don't like the idea of flying such a far distance and having to deal with international communication post-surgery...

I can't decide between Deschamps-Braly and DiMaggio :(.  Partly I am biased cause I met DB in person and really liked him!  I only talked to DiMaggio shortly on skype so I didn't get to hear is full thoughts and he didn't get to see me in person.  Difficult decision... :(

I think he's good enough to remove orbital bone. But I had no luck in the scar . Should improve the technique, making the suture in the direction where hair grows , thereby preventing hair loss.

I had my surgery with Dr. DiMaggio in early-mid January, so I am 4 months post. My hairline scar is already completely invisible and I have no hair loss what-so-ever. Most of the feeling in my scalp has already returned.

He also did work on my chin and jaw and I am completely satisfied with it; I did not have a small jaw and especially did not have a small chin. I am really extremely pleased with his work in this area and it hasn't even been half of a year yet.

I am so far only unhappy with my nose, which was my worst feature beforehand. However, the nose is particularly guilty of taking ages to show results. I am, of course, still waiting.

The thing with FFS is that there are many factors beyond the surgeon's control: where your nerves are placed, how your body responds to scarring and regrowth, how elastic your skin is, how quickly you heal, and so on.

If anyone here is curious for pictures after this post, I'm very sorry, but I do not like to give my pictures out. I can only share my experience thus far.

I didnt have any issues with scars either. Despite little too much tension on front, the scar became invisable at around 6 months. Also I didnt have any hairloss around the scar, even though I had coronal and hairline combination approach. Its not surgeons fault, and its not patients fault, some patients just heal worse than others. Surgeon cant do much about that...

hairline incision in front and coronal on sides. No hairloss anywhere around the scar.

Hi everyone! I'm back in the states! I want to thank all of you that kept up with me.

In regards to the healing of your scars and issues with hairline--- it would be better to post that on your own posts as not to hijack this thread.  ;)

I decided to get my lower jaw done at the last minute and some other work.

In general terms, I am beyond satisfied with the amount of care and after care I had. They went beyond the call of duty. Also, I was mesmerized by Argentina's beauty.  I'll get more into this later.

I'm still quite swollen (it's been two weeks since the last of the two surgeries), and I had more bruising than usual.

I made a few mistakes before going into surgery that I want to share with everyone.  I am hoping you can learn from me what to do and what NOT to do.

I was operated in a Private Hospital that was all state of the art and with the best nurses I have ever dealt with.  DiMaggio's team were simply incredible with me (again, I'll get into that once I'm better healed).  At one point, Dr. Dimaggio was concerned so much for me concerning an issue I was having, that, in middle of rush hour there, he jumped on his motorcycle to avoid the traffic and met up with me at the apartment with another doctor he had called!! How's THAT for service!  He genuinely cares about his patients.

My friends, were really happy with the results despite my swollen face and bruising.  Some seemed relived that I hadn't changed into a completely different person.

It's like I told my friends, "I'm just looking to create my female twin...not a different person."  They agreed.

Am I happy?  Yes, I am...although I can't wait to see the final results in a few months (6 to 8 months).

I also had the pleasure of meeting Valentina (she's on here) in person while I was there!

Ok, I have to rest.  I'll post more later and pics too.

Again, thanks to all of you that were keeping up with me.

Cheers!

I'm glad you found someone to stay with you.

Honestly, (and maybe because I'm middle aged), I don't know HOW I could have done it without my wife helping out.  Granted, Dr. DiMaggio, had Doctor stay overnight, with me in my hospital room while I was out of the OR, but still, having someone with you makes a HUGE difference.

Hats off to those that have been able to manage, without a friend or loved one.  It's a rough ride.  Think about it.  Your whole face has been re-arranged. So yes, it does hurt. It will hurt. But, you'll find that your own excitement and wonder about your new face, will sometimes be as strong as any pain med they give you.

I was so happy to see that the Hospital I was staying at was so nice. Honestly, probably better than any one I've been to in the USA.  That too made a difference.  And the truth is, I never thought I would like Argentina as much as I did.  I've been to Europe, and it REALLY reminded me of it.  The people were very nice too. If you have the means, I would recommend a week before surgery to go on a little tour of the city. We did a private walking tour, and I was just fascinated ( I can give you my tour guides info if you like).  Inflation is starting to even things out in the currency exchange situation, but it's still affordable.

Again, if you have any questions concerning, costs, stay, the city etc., just send me a private message on here and I'll do my best for you.

Hope this all helps!

Yes, the cost of food is higher for most Argentinians , but still affordable to U.S. Peeps.
I expected lower prices, but it wasn't such a big deal since for us it was still affordable.

If you do decide to go check out the exchange rate.

I would recommend renting an apartment through air B and B. Ours was $1100.00 for a month and some days. Then maybe cook there like we did to save yourself some money.

Argentina is not like some Latin countries, it's very ahead of the game in many ways, but it's still going through some growing pains politically and economically...but then, we are to here in the U.S.

Feel free to message me or post here with your questions and I'll do my best to answer you.
