Title: Parents
Post by: rachel89 on February 14, 2016, 04:34:27 PM
My parents are having a really difficult time with acceptance right now. I have been very frustrated with them for months and I am realizing that I may need to them out of my life at some point if they are truly incapable of acceptance. Can I get the viewpoints and input from parents here who have transgender children, especially if they came out in their 20's?

Big hug! My mom lived to put people down. It took me until my thirties to realize that she wasn't a nice person, and that I should walk away from her negativity and lack of support. Through my forties I worked on understanding that I wasn't a bad person for walking away. Now in my fifties, I'm working through what a bad person I am for not really grieving much when she passed away last year.

What I'm trying to say is your mommy isn't always the princess you drew her as when you were a kid. Sometimes people don't learn to accept and give others their individuality. My mom never accepted or supported a single thing that I did in my life.

And she never knew a thing about me being transgender.

Hugs, Devlyn

Rachel, they are probably still trying to digest all of this. They may realize that their lives will be forever changed. Some can handle change better than others. They may come around in the future. I have a saying that when one person transitions, so does the whole family.

Heya Rachel

I'm also in my 20s and dealing with the same thing and unfortunately it's at the point I know it's best to get away and cut ties.  My parents refuse to even understand and rather be shrouded in ignorance.

I'm around if you ever want to talk.
