Title: taking one estradiol pill instead of 2
Post by: VioletKnight on February 16, 2016, 11:45:31 AM
Edit: could an admin move this to the HRT subform if it's more aproprriate?

So I went to planned parenthood to get prescriptions for HRT and they told me to take 2 Spiro and 2 Estradiol each day.

I was wondering whether I could simply take 1 estradiol a day because I don't care too much about feminizing (mostly just removing secondary sex characteristics). I heard it's bad to go over the amount you are prescribed, but what about less? It might save me some money over the long term, if I buy it once every 2 months instead of every months. I'd like to know if there would be health risks to taking 2 Spiro and 1 estrogen

I've only started it for 2 days, so I don't think I would have much changes. However I heard that my libido should be going down, but the opposite has happened, (I came twice a day when I usually only do it once every 1-3 days), so I'm a but concerned that my body could be converting it to androgen but the dose is small so IDK.

The changes take time, you should not expect anything much for a while. Every one is different, some lose their libido, others do not.

If you are unhappy with the dose they have prescribed then go back to them and talk about what you actually want to achieve for yourself through this process, tell them that feminisation is not a goal. They may simply adjust it down but they may also change the Spiro dosage too. These are potentially dangerous medications and you shouldn't just vary the dosage - up or down - without medical supervision.

In the days before blockers, something like that might have been done as estrogen wasn't always enough to stop T production. With blockers, the combination of estrogen and the blocker stops T production if you reduce the amount of estrogen, you might cause T levels to rise. I suspect if you ask your doctor you will find your not on a full transition dose yet but this is something you need to discuss with your doctor before altering your dosage. One other thing. If you check the price of you medication, I suspect that estrogen is pretty cheap and most of the cost is in the blocker. It might not save you much to cut back the estrogen.

You shouldn't act behind your doctor's back. Instead, have a clear, honest discussion with them about what you want and what your goals are. If you want the least amount of E necessary for well-being, then ask for that and see what they have to say. E is more than just for feminization, it affects mood, libido, bones, memory, blood circulation, skin ageing and texture, etc. Not enough E in the absence of T might have negative consequences on your body as a whole, mentally too.
