Title: Interview - Please Help

I applied to a government job recently using my male name from birth. I had no choice because I haven't legally changed my name to female yet.
Before the interview, should I let them know that I'm transgender and would prefer to be called by my chosen female name?
Or should I just go to the interview as a woman with a male name? Would this be strange? I'm sure they're expecting a man to show up.
I've considered heading to the interview as a male, but I no longer pass as a man and act too feminine.

It depends on what rules they may have on the interview. Regardless of which being professionally dressed is important. Considering you can no longer pass as a guy I would professionally dress as a woman. Hugs

It really goes down to you comfort level. If you are comfortable presenting as a woman and you'll be 100% confident during the interview - then I would say go for it.
Good luck xo

When I transitioned in california, the law allowed for a common use name change. This means as long as you don't use your name for illegal purposes, you can call yourself what ever you want. I applied for all my jobs in my new name and never needed to tell an employer about my old name. After surgery I was able to alter my records to my new name. It's a little more complicated now because they run checks on you social security number and they run more employment history checks so at some point in the interview process, your old name may be needed. More or less, you wouldn't need to worry until detail work history or a social security number is required.
