Title: Hello everyone !
Post by: Shakku on February 29, 2016, 01:32:04 PM
Hey !

Well, I guess I'll start here =p
I'm a 24 y.o. AMAB and I really recently discovered that I'm female. After deep introspection, freaking out, realizing a bunch of things and experiencing the feeling that a whole lot of weird things in my life makes sense, I felt deeply lost, confused and left with, like, a million questions. I read a recent introduction in which the image of dominoes is used and it's quite much what I feel. And, well, they keep falling.

I came out to my wonderful fiancée and she's really supportive, I wouldn't have hoped for anything better, really. I've been documenting myself over the Internet and I figure more each day, but I also am in the wonderful emotional rollercoaster I bet you know. I go from euphoria from bein correctly gendered to looking at my testosteroned body and... Well. I'm opened to questions and willing to speak about myself (wouldn't be here otherwise, duh =p), and I'll gladly welcome any of your two cents!

I will have a big deal with my family, I don't think that they would ever understand (they are in an extreme part of christianism), and to top it all, my dad is a narcissitic pervert and a control freak. Hopefully, I'm living abroad with my fiancée. We're at the beginning of a huge journey and we would really need advice, support and tips and tricks. For instance, it is my understanding that getting HRT in Norway (our current country) is far from being easy. We don't know the first thing about safe professionals and we're virtually penniless in one of the most expensive countries there is.

I have much to learn and right know, I just feel like I have an urgent need of your collective wisdom, stories, experiences, just talking, hugs, fluffy animals, whatever =). Thank you!
Oh, and please forgive my English, as I am not native...

Shakku (pseudo for the time being, haven't decided on a new name yet...)

Happy to hear that you've had a good experience with your fiancee! Someone that close to you accepting you is absolutely invaluable :) . As for your family... well, I know how that can be. My extended family is rather backwoods (literally too - they live way out in the sticks). We're all here to support you in coming out to them (should you decide to do so).

As for the "emotional roller coaster", that's a really good name for that. I think we've all been there at some point, heh heh. I do hope your experience with that doesn't get too ugly :\. But you're in exactly the right place to receive collective wisdom for dealing with that and other things.

One more thing - your English is great! (Better than some native speakers, in fact...) You are absolutely fine on that point. :)

Hi Shakku,
welcome to Susans. It's great that your fiance is so supportive. I'm in Canada so I can't really help with your questions about Norway specifically. However have you looked for any LGBT support organizations? If you can find one they might be able to help point you in the right direction. I know for me that was a great starting point to meet up with other local people in the same position as me.

Hi all!

It's really comforting to feel welcome here, at least somewhere. I used to think that I could manage myself and was very independent but now I really feel that I belong to a community, and that IS significant for me.

Having her supporting me is really a huge relief, and she took it really well the first day. After a bit more processing, I'm sensing that she is kinda freaking out and has a lot of fears that I might change (well, physically that sounds quite obvious), but more deeply, and I don't see a way to make her feel safe about that....
As for my family (both our families, actually), I don't really see myself CO to them ever, I mean, they are SO conservative (is that the word?) that getting to talk to them and expecting them to react well looks as if you're asking me to climb a floating mountain (as in Avatar) ^^"...

Yeah, right now and since 5 days, every single day seems like a week to me and I don't manage to tell myself to breathe, so I'm beginning to think about the future and that's kind of overwhelming.
I expect to receive collective knowledge! That's really nice having people talking to me, it does bring comfort and support!

I haven't yet! I will definitely do. As a foreigner, I don't have the slightest clue about the Norwegian health care system, if I'm eligible, if I need the nationalty and stuff like that... Well, I need to look it up, definitely.

I don't know if it's rude to ask transgender people (even the way I say that seems off..Is it the right way to refer to us?) about their background, their story and transition? I guess it would depend on the person but I would definitely like to speak with somebody willing to share his/her experience.

If you want to talk with me, just PM me :) I don't have much though, since I'm still waiting to start HRT.

I'll sure do! Once I get past the 15 posts, that is =p... I'll gladly talk to anyone and frankly speaking, any source of support and wisdom is welcome =)

I had a quick look at your thread, gosh it's amazing! I'll take some time to write a more detailed answer and maybe continue to chat with you there =) Thank you anyway!

By the way, do anyone have experience dealing with his/her parents? I guess there should be a whole lot of info in the CO subforum, but in my particular case, my dad is a narcissitic pervert and a control freak. Does that rings any bell?

I am in a similar situation to you unfortunately, my father upon seeing Conchita Wurst (the Drag Queen who won Eurovision) almost destroyed our Television, when seeing Jordan (the Trans Woman on The Voice UK) ranted for nigh on 2 hours about how it is unnatural, wrong, against gods wishes and all of the other Conservative/Republican views on our 'situation' (sounds like the wrong word to use to me). My step-mother while lacking the correct way to refer to her (she used he she) appeared to not care about Jordan's gender, which does provide a bit of hope... maybe.

So if anyone has any luck with parents who appear to be unchangeable please let us all know.

Hi Shakku,

Welcome to the forum.  Reading about others experiences, both good and bad, has been incredibly helpful.  I cannot give advice about coming out to your parents as I have not done so yet.  It is great that your fiancée is supportive!  Many of the people on this site are full of wisdom so please feel free to ask questions and engage in discussion.  I hope to see you around.

Amber

I don't know about "narcissistic pervert", but "control freak" describes my gene donors exactly. I can offer advice in this if you want it. However, you should use your own judgement as to whether or not you actually follow it (I ended up becoming homeless because we mutually disowned each other). But if you want to ask, feel free.
