Hello everyone, I'd like to apologize in advance in case I break any of the rules here.
So, I just found out that my older brother is a MtF (just started self-medicating).
While he did try to seek help from various therapists & health specialist. In our country, transsexuals have no rights & are at risk of getting prosecuted or even stoned to death (Islamic Country, SEA). Thus, no one was willing to help him and that caused him to be severely depressed for a couple of years.
But recently his mood had been considerably better & somewhat cheerful most of the time. Turns out that he started taking birth control pills as a substitute for HRT (since last month).
While I'm glad that she's happy now... I'm still concerned about the long term effects of the pills, and she doesn't really have any alternatives.
Thank you.
Mod Edit:Dosage

Welcome to Susan's Place. While we don't approve of self medication, we understand the reasons why it happens. We are unable to tell you just how safe a medication is. Many people take HRT for many years without harmful effects but some people have serious or deadly reactions to them. This is why in a normal treatment program you are made aware of the danger of blood clots and blood test regularly check liver function. The risks are small but very real. Your sister has a very caring and loving sibling and I am sorry that she has to face so much difficulty.

If money is not that much of an issue they could go private abroad.
There are endos in the us and australia doing HRT via estrogen implants.
Cost is about 2-4k usd per year.
Here are some resources that might help explain and understand transgender people:
