Title: I was called overweight by two people.
Post by: blossom on March 22, 2016, 04:05:00 PM
One of them was someone I sent a picture to and the other was a counselor I saw. :'(

Now I want to be aneroxic to lose body weight since everyone thinks I'm overweight. :'(

Look,

Get a weight chart. Look at the height and weight measurements. Compare for yourself. Make your own decision. You need not do something dangerous, especially over something that someone else says.

Well, first off , anorexia isn't funny, I was anorexic when I was in high school then again in college. My second attempt at anorexia brought me to one step away from death. Anorexia is something not to be played with, As far as being overweight welcome to the big girls club. I'm overweight and constantly trying to stop the over eating , but it's difficult. I can at least maintain so far , but I need to eat less. It's funny when I was starving to death people would tell me I was going to die and now that I'm plump they tell me that I'm a big girl. As far as what others say there is a middle finger that can be used quite effectively .

Only sheep do whatever everyone else is doing. It's the herd mentality. Don't be a sheep. ;)

I really wouldn't worry about what anyone else says. Most people don't have any idea what's going on beyond their own noses, and sometimes not even that far. The question is, do YOU think you're fat, and if so, what are some options to fix that problem? Then pick the healthiest of those.

I didn't mean it as a joke. :)  I meant it feels like that is what everyone else does when confronted with the situation. At least that is what if felt like to me.

You want to be in the middle or upper end of your weigh range. In my case, I am 6'2" and my best weight is around 160 to 170 pounds. Lighter and I am skin and bones. Heaver and I put weight on in the wrong places. If you are overweigh you only want to lose about a pound or two a week so it will stay off when you reach your desired weigh. Anorexia is nothing to play around with because it has killed people including Karen Carpenter. I have a link to a BMI table so you can determine what your correct weight is.

thanks for posting the table. I guess I really am overweight, but at least I'm not obese. At least not yet. I am finding it very hard to not under eat now. I already had a tiny breakfast and tiny lunch. I plan to have a tiny dinner too. I'm already getting into the habit of barely eating anything.

I prefer to think of it as not being over weight but more under height.

The trick to any diet is to allow yourself food that you enjoy but in controlled portions. I like chocolate but I limit myself to three or four kisses for dessert. I have normal portions of vegetables but watch meat and other high calorie foods. Depending on how much you ate before, reducing your intake a little may be enough to lose weight.

I tried smaller portions, but was still gaining weight. That why I think drastically cutting back my food is my only option :(

I'm not a professional, but these are some things that have helped me

I've struggled to loose weight until recently because I stress-eat, and I've found that replacing and swapping food helps because it's more the activity of eating that i want than the quantity or the bulk. Also, exercise, cardio, it does help and i've found it raises my energy levels a little bit

You could try cutting out white carbs, like potatoes, particularly if you don't eat the skins, and rice, white bread, and pasta - they're all very starchy, and don't have many vitamins or minerals in them (a good rule of thumb is food with as many colours as possible - sweet potato is orange because of the minerals in it) and you only need the carb energy release if you're exercising. If you're like me and sit down all day...

I prefer sweet potato and squash to potatoes, as they've got the same kind of texture but they've got way more vitamins in them - they're not 'empty' carbs like ordinary potatoes. Also beans, chickpeas

Walking briskly is as effective as jogging but better for your joints

You can make pancakes with a banana and an egg blended together, add oats for more protein, or honey if they're not quite sweet enough. they take a bit longer to cook but they're surprisingly good

Sometimes i have one egg with yolk and one egg white to bulk out an omelette without doubling the fat

I also stopped eating butter and lost quite a few pounds (either it was a coincidence or a testament to how much butter i ate before P:) so maybe there's one thing that you could cut out without drastically altering your diet - like cheese, butter, ice cream - as long as you don't substitute it with chocolate or something, you might loose a bit of weight without having to starve yourself or learn to cook a lot of new meals...

Also think about when you're eating. Sometimes having a larger breakfast and a smaller evening meal helps - because the large amount of food you eat late in the day won't be used up in the evening or at night when you're sleeping. If you don't like breakfast a big lunch and tiny dinner might be better. I try to have my carbs at breakfast because that's when i need the energy.

Sorbet sometimes has less calories than ice cream, because it's made without cream, but not always as it's also really sugary.

Sometimes drastically reducing the amount of calories you eat can make you put on weight, as your body enters 'starvation mode', which is a response to famine conditions that makes you start to store calories instead of burn them. It's better to just avoid the kinds of fat that your body will store - if you change what you're eating your portion sizes don't have to shrink so much.

People i know have lost weight on fasting diets - where you eat 800 calories two days a week, and your normal 2500 or whatever is normal for your height/ lifestyle, which i suppose stops the body from reacting as if it needs to store fat to outlast the famine. but i hear that those two days are really hard work. P:

I would honestly say the key things that have helped me loose weight are not snacking after 7pm, exercising, and ditching butter, high fat cheeses, potato crisps, and almost all of my processed sugar. I haven't even completely eliminated carbs - just have less and have them at different times of day.

Also read the packets that food comes in - i've been shocked more than once at how much fat or salt is in something i've eaten. (I'm also gluten free and commercial gluten free bakery products tend to be 90% sugar ._. i once bought a small piece of gf cake that had the same calorific value as two mars bars)

No it isn't. Plenty of us are losing weight sanely with exercise and a good diet.

This is a bad way to go. It works for a minute, and then your metabolism falls off a cliff and your body does this ->

It's better to just avoid the kinds of fat that your body will store - if you change what you're eating your portion sizes don't have to shrink so much.

In order to continue losing weight after your body enters starvation mode you have to stop eating anything at all, because your body will store the majority of calories you consume. And once you stop eating anything at all you start sustaining organ damage. And then there's a fun little mental illness aspect involved with eating disorders that causes them to be a self-perpetuating rabbit hole, but I won't get into that here. Suffice it to say, don't use them to lose weight. You don't need to, it's just dumb to do it that way.

What you should do if you need to lose weight is two things: Control your calorie intake with your mind, not your mouth or stomach. And exercise to keep your metabolism up. That's the tldr. The long version is -

Don't bother making drastic changes to your diet like replacing everything with carrots and celery. You'll never stick to it because that stuff is gross. If you're consuming more than your recommended calorie needs for your height, there are a few things you can do: Limit yourself to one serving per dish. If you eat fast food don't get multiples of the same item, don't supersize your order, etc. You should generally try to balance your meals as one main dish, one or two sides, and a drink. Careful about calories from drinks, they add up quick. Once you've got portion control down you can start trading things out for healthier options, start playing around with when your meal times are to optimize your metabolism, and just generally fine-tuning your intake and output for optimum results. But this is all a lifestyle change, not a temporary diet. Make slow, gradual changes that you can live with. And pay attention to the signals your body is giving.

Willpower is a finite resource that renews at a set rate. If you have a dish of candy staring you in the face all day it's going to use up your willpower before you ever sit down to eat dinner that night, at which point you've got no power left to push the plate away after one serving. So keep that in mind and don't allow one mistake to throw off your whole game. Just because you caved on something, which you WILL do, it doesn't make it okay to continue making poor choices. Enjoy your cheat, and then move onward and upward. Dwelling on it and feeling guilty won't do any good. Just be honest with yourself and try not to cheat all the time.

So diet is by far the most important thing regarding weight loss, however exercise is also important, though take care to understand the purpose of exercise in a weightloss program. You're not really going to burn enough calories to make a difference just from extra physical activity, unless you're an athlete (and you can get yourself to that point if you really want to, no joke). What exercise does for we sedentary folk is to keep the metabolism from bottoming out. So while a half hour brisk walk may only directly burn off 1/10 of that meal you just ate, it will cause your body to continue burning at a higher rate even while you're sedentary. You will have more energy and find it easier to have the motivation to start and complete tasks. The more you move the bigger the effect. Doesn't really matter what it is, do anything that gets you moving. Try to be mindful of stress on joints and bones, but GET MOVING.

If you start getting sluggish, and you've gotten adequate rest (and assuming you don't have a thyroid or other problem), then you need to adjust your calorie intake upwards and force yourself to put some physical activity in. Also drink lots of water; many people are in a perpetual state of mild dehydration, which causes a bunch of problems. If you're only peeing every 6+ hours then you're not drinking nearly enough water.

If you're overweight and you do this you will lose weight. It won't get you rail-skinny, but it gets you headed in the right direction, and there's always room for improvement later. You will hit plateaus from time to time. If you really want to continue shaping up beyond that you'll need to put more work into a healthy diet, and more work into exercise. DO NOT JUST CUT CALORIES.

Your weight will change day to day and hour to hour. If you weigh yourself, do it at the same time every check-in. If you weigh yourself every day it can be extremely frustrating, you're better off to do it every week and mark the general trend in your weight. But more important than your weight is your waistline. As you exercise more you will gain muscle, which makes you weigh more, but you will look better. Weighing 170 and having 50% bodyfat is very, very different from weighing 170 and having 25% bodyfat.

General rule is that it takes 4 weeks for you to notice changes in yourself: muscles developing tone and definition, fat deposits shrinking, clothes getting looser, etc. 8 weeks for those close to you to see it. And 12 weeks for the rest of the world to see you differently. You're playing the long game here; don't try to rush it, and don't allow frustrating setbacks to cause you to give up. You CAN do this in a healthy way. Or you can have a really light casket. Your call.

I recently lost almost 50lbs in about 8 months using Tim Ferriss' slow carb diet but you should like eggs but I was never hungry and one day a week you can eat as much and whatever you like. This is to.prevent the body from going into starvation mode. Feel free to DM me.

I'm 6' and was ~215lbs - now 165 and happy.

I've been called every single name in the book mostly from my father about my weight and gut frankly I didn't care at all that is until 2 moths ago when I started really considering transitioning simply because I never cared about myself but now I do. What i've done is cut soda out completely I've had 1 20 oz of coke a week ago but nothing else for a month. In addition i'm eating better slightly I still love my cheeseburgers but ive cut out the bacon and I use a foreman grill at least most of the time + eat 1 only every 1-2 weeks instead of 2-3 a week. In addition i've started to work out again I started with every other day as many situps as I could handle around 30 at the start then 45 sec side plank ea side, 45 sec front plank, 60 sec flutter kicks, 30 sec bicycle kicks and 60 sec mountain climbers. Now 1 month in i've lost 14 lbs all or most the first week but my family and friends have all commented my face seems slimmer and my guts smaller. Also now at 1 month i've ramped up the routine I now do 60 seconds of lunges, 60 seconds of squats and another 30 sit ups for a total of 75 session. I can now hold myself up for the full 45 seconds during the side planks altho im pooped after each set.

While I have yet to see much of a difference myself weighing in at 210 week after week for a month I can definitely tell you right now just eating a smaller potion alone wont do nothing at least not in a reasonable amount of time. I can say this because the day I joined the army I weighed 210 however at the end of basic I had dropped to 170 and gained ripped arms + a visible 6 pack just 2 months later. I dont want that again if i did id be lifting weights/doing pushups mon, wen, fri and doing cardiovascular ie running 2 miles and doing the exercises i'm doing now just with a lot more of em tue/thursday/saturday plus trim my food intake much further. At the end of basic I was also running a 4 min mile I cheated and ran a extra 2 miles every day on my own just to do this.

You can't TRY to be Anorexic. Anorexia is a mental disorder, which means it's not intentional. I can't just decide one day to become bipolar or schizophrenic, right? Please don't trivialise it like this.

I went vegan. I quit eating all packaged foods. I quit eating simple carbs. I also keep my carb limit low each day. I lost over 100 pounds. I didn't do this to lose weight. I did it because diabetes was killing me. I decided to not feed the beast with anything from which it could manufacture glucose (sugars.) So, the weight loss was a huge bonus because my problems with diabetes stopped progressing. I also have no need to take insulins and all the other expensive medications.

I've been steadily losing 1 to 1.5 pounds a week since the beginning of Feb just exercising a lot and recording my diet to have a daily deficit of about 800 to 1000 calories every day.  I also cut out all processed carbs and keep my protein at a somewhat high level.  I wasn't overweight to start with so if you are overweight you might lose your weight faster.

If they don't like how you look, but you're comfortable with yourself, screw them.  Beautiful people come in all shapes and sizes. Don't you think on that one bit.  If you want to lose weight for your own health, good for you. If you want to change yourself based on a couple of body shamers giving you crap, you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

Exercise.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Thank you everyone for the replies, especially the very long ones. I went yesterday with only eating a tiny breakfast and lunch and for dinner I just had a small salad with a small sausage. Today was similar. Tiny breakfast and lunch and I'll probably have a small dinner again. It's hard for me to stop doing this even though I just recently started. I want to pass and being thin is one more advantage that I can have.

well, here is an update. I still have tiny meals and I think I'm losing weight. There was a time though that I vomited soon after eating, so I don't know if that is related. I plan to keep this up until I have a flat stomach. My biggest problem is I feel so hungry all the time.

I haven't started transitioning yet but I am working on losing weight. One thing that has worked for me so far is to keep track of what I eat. You would be surprised what you are actually eating when you write it all down or use a food database to track it.  I am using the MyFitnessPal app. It has a huge food database and is easy to use. Good luck. I still have a ways to go too. I am currently at 225 at 6-2.

I've been using Myfitnesspal for 5 years and it really is the best place to track a diet.  It also has really good forums for diet and exercise advice.

People are jerks. If your weight bothers you, you can go to your doctor to talk about weight loss options

Trust me you do not want to be anorexic, I had anorexia (not Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia) induced by severe nausea caused my h pylori infection(it's not fun) I had malnutrition, I felt like I was going to die, my hair was falling out, I became bed ridden, and I quickly gained the weight back after treatment of the infection.

besides my short bout of anorexia I was obese most of my life, about five years ago I decide that my weight was ruining my life and that I would make a change. I have at this point lost 60 lbs. I eat 4 large vegi based meals a day, I get at least 30 g of fiber every day(all from food), eat at least three cups of vegis and three whole fruits, I don't drink calories and I exercise for at lest an hour a day (I stared with just walking and now I'm doing HIIT, weight lifting and jogging.) losing weight is not always how much you eat but what you eat.
