Title: Surgery Letter dilemma
Post by: FrankNstein on April 01, 2016, 02:09:52 PM
Hey everyone. So I scheduled my consultation for top surgery and they told me I would need a letter. I live in a small town in AZ where there aren't any qualified psychologists for FTM and I'm a little panicked about what to do. I don't have a lot of money to travel (there's some in Phoenix, but that's probably a 4hr drive) so I was hoping for suggestions? If anyone has gotten a letter through an online physiologist and wouldn't mind sharing the cost and how many sessions it took for the letter, I'd appreciate it.

I've never wanted to move so bad until all these hoops came up... I'm developing small town blues. :( Off topic, but feel free to include some good news about you on the thread. I could use a smile right now.

You came to the right place. Max and I have successfully gotten our top surgery letter from here http://gendertherapist.com/

On average it takes about a month with an appointment once a week. Cost $320

You basically just tell the guy your life story in text chat.

What Alex said. Dr. Graham is awesome. It took me three sessions/three weeks. The only rough part is that he is UK based, so you may have to wake up early or stay up late to chat with him. His letter is still usable in the US though (people always ask).

$320 for up to 6 sessions, and he guarantees that he'll write your letter in that many sessions or less. I like him a lot. If I hadn't been able to get my bottom surgery referrals for free through my doctor's office, I would've gone back to him again. Easy to talk to, non-judgmental, and understands if you're not looking for a big "talk about your feelings" experience and just want a referral. Just an all around great dude.

Hey everyone! Just thought I would make an update on the situation. I've done about 6 weekly sessions with Graham, each an hour long. He told me today I had one more week before I could get my surgery letter and if I wanted one for T I had to do 2 more weeks and pay for the letter. Overall, not too bad.

He's a little particular about how he views transgender people, which occasionally made me feel a little odd, but the convenience has been worth it. The worst part was the time difference and making that work, but it hasn't been too bad.

I do think he should have files for his clients with notes instead of always asking me where we left off. He tends to repeat questions and I don't feel we covered much, but I'm not too picky since I know where I stand.

Regardless, I'm grateful for the suggestion guys. =)
