Title: Hi, I'm awkward, how are you?
Post by: Sam Antics on April 01, 2016, 02:35:27 PM
Hello, my name is Sam.  ;D
I'm awkward and hope to find some equally awkward people here with which to share my awkwardness and, ironically enough, feel a little less awkward.

I don't know about everyone else on here, but one of my biggest awkward-inducers is my gender identity and what to do with it. I'm still figuring it all out myself, and I feel I've finally gotten to a state where I'm secure enough in my insecurities that I'd be able to discuss some of this confusing gender stuff with others. Also, I think I've been lurking around on here long enough, and it's high time to actually interact with some of you amazing individuals.

So, about me (with regard to gender):
FTM, basically. I am female-bodied, and really uncomfortable about that fact. I'd be much more at home in a male body, but I find the prospect of getting there to be quite daunting. I'm pre- everything, and have finally gotten to a point where doing nothing about my gender dysphoria aside from wearing a binder is negatively affecting my day to day functioning. Simply put, it's extremely hard to do so much as leave the house when I'm not even comfortable with myself and who I am.
I've been in therapy a while, and I'm taking medication for depression/anxiety (shocker there, eh?) and ADD, but I think I need help from someone who's a bit more knowledgeable about transgender issues (as I had to explain a lot to my current therapist, who was very understanding and willing to learn and discuss transgender related things, but needless to say wasn't very helpful in those areas...). So I finally contacted another therapist this week who might actually be able to help me on my currently unstable transition journey.

And finally, some more about me (with regard to everything else, lol):
I am a linguistics and anthropology major in my 5th+ year (maybe I'll decide to graduate someday...).
I adore languages in general, but I especially love Japanese.
I also love anime (another shocker, I'm sure), and Japanese music. And music in general. I'd actually love to be able to live off making and playing music, but first I'd like to someday get by bachelors, haha. (My secret dream is not to be a man, but more specifically, to be Hyde, the singer of the Japanese bands L'Arc~en~Ciel and VAMPS. He is my spirit animal.)
I also love all the different people who speak all those awesome languages out there, hence the anthropology bit. I'd love to travel the entire world and meet as many different kinds of people as I possibly can.
I also enjoy wine, crocheting, playing guitar, and playing Cards Against Humanity.
Oh yeah, and I'm 25.

Pleased to make your acquaintance.  ;)

Hey Sam!

Welcome to Susan's :) Great to have you here - looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

Plenty of people feel very awkward too so don't worry about it. Hopefully you'll feel comfortable and relaxed soon enough. As for feeling daunted by the prospect of transition it is indeed a huge journey but the thing to keep in mind is that it happens over many, many months if not years, which gives you time to get things sorted along the way.

Hey, Sam,

Pleased to make your acquaintance. I'm a female-bodied non-binary gray zone somewhere in the middle being. I'd love to have a male package, but settle for a packer.

I LOVE your taste in spirit animals! Wow: Thanks for the intro to Hyde.

Have fun here. As you know, it's a great place.

Hey! Great to meet you!

I'm SoYun, (소윤)

I have an interest lanaguages, it's great to meet a fellow linguist! I don't have much knowledge of J-Pop aside from the obvious Harajuku Pop Princess herself きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ ;D However, my favorite K-Pop group Girl's Generation 소녀시대 have released more in Japan and Japanesse than in Korean

I also like wine and CAH. I think the two go together fabulously!

Welcome to Susans, the greatest place in the universe

Hi,

I enjoyed reading your introduction, and can empathize with your "awkwardness"; as I'm sure many people on here can also.

Interested to read about your passion for foreign languages, particular Asian ones. I'm reasonably fluent in Indonesian, and can also speak passable Thai (an incredibly difficult language to master, for several reasons).

I hope you continue to post here, and wish you all the best. I'm also new to this forum.
