Title: MtF?
Post by: MPEO on April 10, 2016, 05:13:16 AM
Hello,

I am currently a 14 year old male and Im really confused if I am transgender or not. I have memories from my young childhood of wanting to be a girl and also acting as girls on online games. Problem is that I dont hate being male, but i feel being female will just be better for me. (I have told nobody about the way I feel is real life. I have on other msg forums.) Just hoping for some advice. Thanks!

Hi!

Welcome to Susan's  :)  Great to have you here - looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

You might find that being on the forum helps to give you some insight into your gender identity. We can't really tell you one way or the other, it is a choice you need to arrive at yourself and everyone has a different journey to get to that point. When you say you feel you would be better as a female what does that mean for you? How do you think it will make things "better"?

People are finding more and more that most of society are not purely all one gender or another (binary). Transgender, at this point has come to be an umbrella term that covers a whole spectrum between being purely female and male. Laura 7 and Miss Grace have given some great answers and suggestions to look at and think through.

While it is confusing, there should be no real rush to make a decision that is firm yet. Do you feel you can talk to your parents about this? These thoughts don't make you crazy but it might be helpful to talk through some of these things with a therapist (or councillor). Many schools have them available. You have a right to confidential therapy, even if you seek help in a public school. Many of us regularly go to a specific gender therapist but even a generic one can help people short original things out.

If you noticed in one of Laura7s posts, there is an area on this site dedicated to younger members. Some of us, who are older might be able to help you sort things out. However, it might also help to read about and interact with people who are closer to your age here. Also, if you think your parents would be okay with the idea and have questions.... there is an area here called significant others for spouses but also family to help support and answer questions. I know we have some members who joined because they love and support their kids but needed info and support about having a trans kid.

I wish you love, acceptance and a smooth journey to figure this out.

With warmth,
Joanna

I didn't hate being male either, but I've been living full-time as a woman for two and a half years now and being female is definitely better for me.

A lot of us feel the same way you do. There are many. many ways that people experience being trans.

Welcome to Susan's Place. We call being between male and female non binary and we have a place on the site for people who feel that way to talk with each other. Non binary is very confusing because people who feel like that may feel may different ways. A good place for you to start is  our Wiki  (https://www.susans.org/wiki/Transgender) where many variations of transgender are discussed. Don't worry if non of the labels exactly fit because not everybody feels exactly like one of the standard labels. It may take a gender therapist to help you figure this out and decide what you want to do. If you decide you want to tell your parents we can provide information that will help you explain this to them.

I fall under the label of Transsexual and finished medical treatment 33 years ago. I am here to help people understand what they feel and get the help they need so feel free to ask me any questions you might have.
