Hello all!
This is such a big step for me, and I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I actually am going to see someone about this. For years and years, I've done absolutely nothing about this and stayed in a confused circle ever since.
In the last month, I've been more productive than I have been in the last 23 years of my life! I've started a journal, thought long, deep and hard about all of this and, finally, am seeking help.
The place I booked at specializes in youth mental health (kind of feels good to be 23 and still considered youth!). I've booked an initial intake appointment....kind of just like a normal first appointment, I guess?
Anyway, it's booked for next week. I am feeling all sorts of different things right now...I managed to stop myself from pacing around for the last 10 minutes to sit down and right this. My heart was almost beating out of my chest, I felt so nervous and a bit anxious. I almost didn't book in, but I told myself I have to do this. And I did it.
Kind of a bit of a relief. But scary at the same time!
Does anybody have any tips on how to prepare for this? Should I go in prepared with a plan, or just "wing it" and see what happens? What is the first session like?
Eek! A big milestone in my journey is coming up.
Thanks for reading!

Congratulations Karlee, that is wonderful.
Basically present as you are comfortable. Maybe write out your 'story' so you can either hand it too the therapist or at least refer to your notes. No need to be nervous the good therapists have seen it all.
Typically in the gender unit I am in the therapist starts off by saying my name is XXXX, what name would you like me to use for you?
It is the first step of acceptance!
Then be honest, tell them what you want, what your concerns are and what will happen to you. Make sure that you have an agenda of what you want to do.
The majority of trans people need little if any therapy, if you do have PTSD from past life experiences say so, in that way you can be helped to deal with it.
Remember you are the only person who can tell if you are trans or not, the therapist is there to help you on your journey in the safest most efficient way.

Hi Cindy,
Thanks for your words of wisdom and comfort! I'm doing my best at the moment to look at things positively and get excited, rather than nervous.
I think it should be a rewarding experience and I hope to be able to take a lot from it.
Hopefully some new updates in the coming days!
