Title: I caught a glimpse of her... :-)
Post by: Jessica_W on April 23, 2016, 11:33:41 AM
My best friend and I went to a professional wig place and met with a professional who fitted me with the right wig for my head, shape, and color. I caught a glimpse of her - the woman in me and I nearly cried. She is naturally beautiful and I wanted so bad to leave the store looking like her, but I couldn't. She's going to have wait 21 months longer till I graduate school, but I just wanted to share my story - my little moment with you guys - that I got to see the woman inside me and it was beautiful.  :-)

Very nice. I vividly recall looking in the mirror the first time I'd used hot rollers, which at the time really suited my face.

Same reaction, but I was fortunate enough to not have to wait 21 months.

I don't know if this will make you feel better or not. When I was 18, I vividly remember seeing the real me. I put some lipstick on for the first time, and it was just an amazing moment to see Monica and not "him." It was so powerful. I'm crying just thinking about it. D*mn it! Unfortunately, it took another 40 years before I could allow Monica to live and breath. I am glad to see you won't have to wait that long.

Even before HRT and whilst looking quite male (still do ;(   I sometimes get a glimpse of her in the mirror, I think it centres around the eyes, its just fleeting and once i see her and look she is gone, although as my hair grows and eyebrows become more shaped she hangs around for a bit longer now.  Interestingly though its quite often when i have just put shaving foam on so I don't know if its obscuring the shape of my lower face that does it.

Anyway enough rambling, but keep you mind open when your in front of the mirror and you may just glance a look at her when your least expecting it and not even trying, and when you do its a wonderful feeling.

That's wonderful, Jessica!

It's a magic moment.  I sort of had that experience a few days after starting hormones.  I was looking in the bathroom mirror, and somehow I saw a girl.  It was kind of shock.  Then the moment faded, and I was just me.  I'm still just me, but I see more and more of that girl in the mirror.

With kindness,

Terri

It's a wonderful surprise when it happens.  I couldn't stop grinning for hours after my first glimpse.

I eagerly look forward to when it's just a routine part of my day.  ;)

That's great Jessica! I hope it continues.

I had an experience like that last January. I can in no way grow my hair back and had a wig fitting and styling. At first I thought I just looked like a middle aged rocker(but it was without a true look). There hiding for about 50 years, she was. At this point, some days I see glimpses( I can't present yet) but not for very long.

It does give one hope. I hope your journey continues, smoothly.

With warmth,

Joanna

Seeing that very first glimpse of your authentic self is such a powerful, emotionally charged experience. For me, it literally took my breath away, then came the waterworks and the happy dance!  :D

The experience reminds me of those videos on youtube showing the emotional response of deaf people hearing for the first time. It's just magic.

Seeing your true self for the first time...Even if it`s just a glimpse can give you a hope that she`s there. And everybody`s going to see her, once you graduate :)

Thank you everyone for the kind replies and words. I'm also happy to report both my doctor and therapist are on board with helping me transition when the time comes. That news is awesome.  :'-)
