"White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest put Texas. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on blast for transphobic comments he made on Friday, calling Patrick the "risk of electing a right-wing radio host to a statewide elected office."
Fox News host Megyn Kelly had Patrick on her show, The Kelly File, Friday, and she challenged the Gov. to defend comments he made about the Obama administration's decision to include transgender students in Title IX protections. At the Texas State Republican Convention in Dallas, Patrick told an audience on Friday, "We will not yield to blackmail by the President of the United States," regarding the Department of Education directive. In an interview with Fort Worth TV station, KXAS, he said, "This will be the beginning of the end of the public school system as we know it.""

Wow, even Fox news is on board? That's a big change for us. I saw him interviewed side by side with Jenny Boylan on MSNBC. Jenny asked him several times which restroom she should use. He refused to answer. ;) She stopped short of asking him "Do you believe I'm a man?" I don't think he would have answered that either.

Huh. This happened within the same month that Megyn Kelly met with transgender actress Laverne Cox on her show. I haven't seen that show, but maybe meeting with actual transgender people can even have a positive effect on Fox "News" hosts. This is giving me a bit of a confidence boost about the state of things in this country as long as we keep being visible.

Kelly is further trying to distance herself from the right wing as she prepares for a career after Fox

I don't actually watch much Fox--a couple of hours in the background whenever I visit my parents--but I've got basically nice things to say about the actual news there, with my reservations really aimed at the editorializing which they use to fill up so much of their schedule. I was under the impression that Kelly's show was in the latter, but she's really been earning my respect between things like this and the Trump feud.
What was that about journalists speaking truth to power, comforting the afflicted, and afflicting the comfortable?

Even right wing folks have hearts. It may be that Ms. Kelly learned from Ms. Cox a little of what we have to go through and realized that Mr. Patrick's sort of hate causes real damage to real lives.

I was raised under that flag and I was horrifically anti-LGBT for a good chunk of my life until I pulled the earplugs out. I definitely have a lot of respect for Megyn now, who did not have to be LGBT to decide to treat others like human beings. If this is as genuine as it sounds, she's a better person than I am.
