Title: Advice about hormones and gradually transitioning
Post by: Username1 on May 15, 2016, 11:34:07 AM
Hi, I'm 23 and wanting to discuss the possibility of transitioning. At the moment I live my life as a gay male, but 90% of the time when people first meet me they mistake me for female. I am at my most comfortable with makeup on and my hair looking nice etc, it's long ish by the way. I am 5'8 and slim with small hands and feet. I cross dress occasionally privately.
My problem is as I am getting slightly older my hairline is starting to recede , and I'm getting the hair in all kinds of other places which I am not happy about. At the moment I pass for a girl and I'm happy like that... If I get any older/bigger/broader/hairier/voice deeper etc I am NOT going to like it. I don't think anyone would be surprised if I came out as being trans...
Another problem is that here in the UK where I live, I have been on the waiting list to be seen at the gender clinic for over a year, and they estimate I won't get seen until next year (2017)
I feel like my time is running out to speak to someone and get onto hormones etc. I'm considering self dosing, I've spoken to my doctor and they've suggested if I'm going to I need to go in for regular blood tests etc. What I want advice on from someone here is which hormones /blockers etc I should be looking at buying. I'll do my research on those and then start the process... I'm sorry this is so long by the way it's my first post. Thanks x

You might think about bridging treatment:

They also have materials to help with the NHS.

Its also possibe to self refer to a GIC, or say which GIC should be used.
There are GIC with fewer waiting times, you might look up lists of waiting times.

The laurels usually have a good reputation and fewer waiting times.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Directly and indirectly you asked many questions. First, dosage information may not be discussed on this site. The restriction exist for legal reasons. You may discuss medications and test results when they indicate you are under medical care. I would suggest bridging as Laura_7 suggested which would get you started on HRT and/or paying out of pocket for those things not covered at present.

We have members who are older than you, have lost all their hair, taller than you, lower voice than you and all are or have over come their difficulties. We have many members who will provide any advice you need and many older posts showing how others have overcome their difficulties. The most difficult thing to overcome is the attitude that I can't do it. If you decide you can do it you will succeed.

I have a shaky feeling about you because it appears you may not understand much about the options you face. I am going to provide two additional links that will give you a better understanding about being transgender. The first is our WIKI  (https://www.susans.org/wiki/Transgender) where you will learn about the many possibilities of being transgender. The second is  "the transition channel"  (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfO3B57E6NpIn-KsVjvmLLw) which will help in the process of self examination. Feel free to post any questions you have on this thread and I will attempt to answer them when I can.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.
