Hi everyone, I am Rhonda. I am new to the site and wanted to introduce myself. I am 38 from Phoenix AZ. Even though I am not that old, I was raised old fashioned. For many years I have kept my inner feelings private. The few times I got brave and opened up to those I thought I could trust, I ended up losing my marriage, my children, and my career. Currently I still hide behind who I was raised to be. But I am finally tired of doing that. I start seeing a counselor next week and will be looking at the long steps to start HRT and finally feel normal.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I am on the other side of the mighty Salt River ;D and am a bit older than you. I wasn't born here but we moved here when I was about 10 and I returned about 5 years ago. Looking around at resources, you shouldn't have the trouble I had connecting with them. When I transitioned there wasn't anything closer than Los Angles. The people on the site are quick to provide people with help but if I can help you, let me know.

Thank you Dena. I am located in the west valley. I am not sure how well my options will be as I will be dealing with the VA. I am a vet and that is who my medical is through. But do welcome any and all support offered. I know I will have many questions in my journey.

After the melt down with the Phoenix VA, it's anybody's guess as to the type of care you will receive. From what I read in the paper, the mess still isn't cleaned up but you may know more about that than I do. Tucson has a gender clinic in the VA but that's a little far to go for support. We have a number of current and former service people on the site and you might be interested in the Roll Call (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,96755.msg1843994.html#msg1843994) thread.

Exactly. I may have a possibility to seen an outside provider, but won't know until time. Go for first appointment next Friday so will see then.
They are a mess, they botched a simple outpatient surgery on me a few yrs back. Still dealing with issues from it. Lol. So fingers crossed I get an amazing understanding dr, or they allow me outside provider (def the preferred choice)

Thank you. It's all part of the process to be who we are. Even though I have lost some things, I have started gaining true happiness.

Hi Rhonda!
I just started going to counseling too. Kind of nervous but really excited. Getting to this point for me has been filled with a lot of negative experiences but being able to crawl out of my 20+ years of depression has been amazing. Hang in there!
