Hi Girls;
I have just had a bit of an interesting experience and wonder if anyone else has experienced this to themselves.
Firstly let me explain.
1. I am an older woman in years
2. I am a bit overweight
3. I am on a no carbs diet and losing weight though
4. I am partially disabled with a bad leg - due to an infection some years ago that left me partially disabled. This limits what I can do for exercise.
So last week whilst I was travelling on business, I had some cellulitis in my bad leg flare up and got carted off to hospital. They immediately put me on intravenous antibiotics. Unfortunately I was taken by ambulance so didn't have any of my regular medications with me..
After two days I had an Anaphylactic reaction to the intravenous antibiotics, (Skin went red all over and I had welts coming up everywhere). They had me two types of antihistamine to try to counter the reaction, then changed my antibiotics to a different type. At first the antihistamine worked, but with the changed antibiotics the reaction got worse and worse (the Hospital was puzzled). Treatments was two different types of Anti-histamine and Calamine lotion for the itching!. But nothing was stopping the growing reaction. So they stopped the intravenous antibiotics switching me to Oral tablets.
As my leg cellulitis had cleared up, they discharged me 24 hours later and sent me home (although still covered by the skin reaction and welts to about 90% off my body).
When I got home after flying back inter-state, (after 6 days off HRT) , I took my regular Oestrogen dose immediately on getting home and just within 3 hours 85% of my body reaction and welts had disappeared, with just the skin a little bit pink. I have still a little bit of skin irritation, but Aveeno skin lotion and lavender oil at night time is slowly fixing this and I am getting back to normal, with my skin feeling super soft all over again.
What I find amazing is that the apparently the lack of HRT for 6 days could cause this overreaction and seem to cure it so dramatically. Anyone else had this experience?
PS Is it perhaps that the sudden lack of any Sex hormone generation presence in the blood stream plus the antibiotics could have caused the over reaction. My T levels are generally these days under 0.5 and my standard Oestrogen levels are 240-260.
Anyone shed any light on this reaction, as the Hospital doctors were baffled!

Sorry, no idea - that sounds very strange and unpleasant for you. I do wonder though why they couldn't supply you with your regular medicine in hospital...?? Even if you didn't have it they must have had some lying around.
