Title: HRT patches
Post by: BelleRoberts on July 17, 2016, 06:56:55 AM
Well, I've gone and stuck on that first hormone patch, I'm 52, I'm a pretty laid back person, but to say I'm excited is an understatement. I received them after a visit to hospital last week and two years of seeing a Dr, I am based in Edinburgh Scotland. What should I expect in the first 3 months if anything, looking forward to your opinions xx

Congratulations!  It really can be quite exhilarating to finally be able to do something tangible towards your transition.

In my experience, there were no profound physical changes at first, but within days my dysphoria was greatly diminished.  It was like finally being at peace.  I was started on spironolactone and a patch, so the next thing I noticed over the course of a few weeks is greatly reduced sex drive as my testosterone levels went down. That was a blessing as far as I was concerned, but if you are sexually active, you may not appreciate that if you are being prescribed an anti androgen.  The other physical effect was on my breasts.  They start to hurt as breast buds form. You will soon feel a small lump under your nipples that is tender to the touch.

Over the next few months I noticed my skin had gotten softer and less oily, and my body hair (arms, abdomen, armpits) was not growing back after I shaved it. Unfortunately, I still have to shave my legs regularly, just like most women. My body scent changed somewhat as well. My face got a little rounder and more feminine.

After ten months, I have had only modest breast growth, but enough to be concerned about it at work. I have very pronounced man boobs now and may have to start wearing a sports bra under my shirt.  I have to wear a sports bra when I exercise or else is very uncomfortable to run.

With kindness,

Terri

Welcome to this land BelleRoberts

very true everyone develops differently and reacts differently to the different components of HRT.

I think I reacted very fast but then again it's also how we view them changes... I realize now the people who knew me before don't really see the changes, they get the basic info of what I was and their brain processes that to the old picture that they still see, whereas people who never saw me before really look twice, or more, stare... (makes me smile)

have a good journey

Thanks for your comments ladies, I didn't expect much to happen for a long time, but one thing has happened and that is a sense of calm has come over me, probably all the stress of appointments, laser and electrolysis over the last five years. I am now looking forward to being my true self, love to all xx

I just noticed this thread. I slapped on my first patch a whole 3 hours ago.  Yay us!

I'm fastening my seatbelt, and promise to keep my arms and legs inside the vehicle until it comes to a full and complete stop.  ;)

My nipples started hurting about a week ago and haven't stopped, so hopefully buds are starting to develop! :D

Hi all,

feeling very content at the moment, family have been away on holidays so lots of dressing, so nice to get up in the morning, do your makeup, get dressed and get on with whatever needs doing.

The patches do get a bit messy around the edges after a couple of days, just need to keep them inside my panty line. ;D

they do make a mess and can even stick to the pantie  :o  I lost 2 that way before figuring it's better to put them more towards the hip
