Title: Can post-op MtF not take ANY estrogen at all?
Post by: chris9 on July 19, 2016, 06:28:15 AM
Hi,

I am a postop MtF. I've seen some obstetricians and they said I may stop taking estrogen medication if I want to. Since they are not very well informed about trans things and the use of estrogen (They are Asian), I wonder if I should take their advice. If I really stop taking estrogen, I may be running short hormones in my body. I heard some MtFs have had this problem and they were asked by their GPs to take male hormones! Sounds horrible but it's true.

THanks
Chris

Not sure what planet they come from.

Your sex hormone, your androgen, is oestrogen.

You need it for bone growth, mental growth etc.

Your medics know this.

Your body will need either the female or male sex hormone (estrogen or testosterone)... without either you will effectively enter menopause and run the very real risk of developing osteoporosis. If you are young (under 69!) I doubt you want that experience.

Estrogen is for life from what I understand.

Since the Testicles are gone, T-Blockers are one less thing to have to worry about...

but..

Since your body does not naturally produce the same levels of Estrogen as a Cis Female, you will have to take just enough to keep you at the "Normal" levels.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hope it helps. :)

There's been some posts about this before

I've seen some other betters ones but I can't find them.

If you're not somehow misunderstanding what your doctors are telling you then I'd suggest that they are incompetent and you should find better ones. Next time you have have a problem it might be more serious, and then whats going to happen?

My doctor gave me that advice about 10 years ago and without hormones the feminine fat relocated to my stomach area. My face became more drawn, I lost some breast size and my legs lost some shape. The good news is I have been back on estrogen for about 6 months and the damage is reversing at a fast pace. Post transition you should be somewhere around a quarter to half transition depending on what your doctor suggests.

I think that might apply to dosages, not blood levels. I believe my endo keeps blood levels the same.
