Title: Bathrooms - which are cleaner, M or F? The transgendered perspective.

I've never really used womens bathrooms but the common perception seems to be that women leave their public bathrooms far cleaner than men do.
What is your take on this from the perspective of having used both?
Note - next bit is a bit of a crude rant so don't read if you're a bit body function adverse.
I work in an office and what some people may not be aware of, but in my experience is ture, is that office workers have really bad bowels. At least the men do anyway. I walk into those bathrooms some mornings and I can't believe how people can get crap where they do. I mean sometimes skids are unavoidable, but this goes way beyond that. They must be tying their shoes while trying to go, practicing what to do in the event of a plane crash, or jumping up and down at the same time or something. Either that or the business end is mutated to allow stuff to go up instead of down. It really disgusts me. We have a nice new building and the bathrooms are cleaned well, it is beyond me how some users do so much damage. And the urinals - the mess everywhere makes it look like some people must be trying to piss in their own mouths! I say if you can't aim straight then sit down to pee people! I can't imagine what their home toilets must look like. :icon_shakefist:

There is really no comparison here. I think it is at least partially because guys don't aim before they shoot.

[WOMEN] is definitely cleaner. And nicer. And I like the lounge area (when provided) where I can pause to look for something in my purse that slipped to the bottom. And ditto the makeup counter with good lighting and a nice chair or two.
Even when other women 'hover' to go, the seat is cleaner.
Yes, for that reason alone, nevermind the other amenities, I much prefer the sign of the blue circle...

A couple of years ago, I took a week off work to help out with the admin for a sports tournament.
I was asked one day to go clean the the toilets out, so off I went.
Mens:
Urine every where, toilets mostly full, not flushed, no toilet paper, urine in the hand basins, no soap, no towels, a scrawlled sign on the wall noting the highest level achieved in the "Who can pee the highest competition" ... basically disgusting.
Womens:
I replaced the flowers, air freshners and emptied the waste bins. Checked the soap was OK and left.
That really does sum up the difference.

Women's rest rooms are almost always cleaner though I haven't actually seen the inside a mens room in 10 years. I also imagine it depends on where you're going. I went into a "lady's" room once and it was so bad I couldn't use it. That was the last time I ever went to that club.

Women's rooms are cleaner, and nicer. With the exception that when a toilet breaks, men will try and fix it. Women will continue to use it. Which leads to a fair bit of grossness in the women's room.

They both can be pretty gross.
Women's public showers are definitely grosser than men's public showers. People wipe their fallen hair all over the walls, there's always some unidentifiable gel or cream or liquid on the floor tiles, and you may end up showering after someone who had their period if you're VERY unlucky.
LOL. Guess you've had a few bad times then.

I've been in some really gross women's rooms. My mother always said they were worse, and I can see her point. But I think the number of gross women's restrooms is fewer than the gross men's ones.

I personally don't mind the men's room being a mess. I actually always considered the women's room to be a bit too clean. In the men's room there's usually more magazines scattered around the stall to read and relax while you're in there and it feels more at home. Women's rooms just feel too...crisp. Then again I'm a low maintanence guy.

Magazines in the toilet? Where is this place? :)
Male toilets always stink, the stench can be so bad, like in underground tunnels. :o
Women's toilets are the cleanest and we are always reapplying deodorant and perfume, so it smells nice most of the time.

I used to clean the bathroom in our store after closing. I always dreaded going into the women's bathroom.
Yes the men's normally had mags, and occasional plugged up toilet.
The women's however had urine on the seats, or around the floor , toilet paper around the seat and under the toilet, plugged up many a times.
Even found pads a few times.
In that room , they had 6 separate toilets enclosed in stalls vs the men's one enclosed and 1 urinal.
And to think if the toilet was confined to just one stall repulses me.
I am just glad I dont clean any toilets at my current place of work.

The women's are definately cleaner. Men's rooms are disgusting. They do not have toilet seat covers. Everytime i'm in a public men's room, there's pee and a stand of pubic hair on the seat. I'm so revolted by them. Boys are alot more immature with the bathrooms in school. Personally, I'd rather go in my pants than in a men's room.

The female toilets are much cleaner and deodorized. In certain circles & events where peeps from all over the world are congregated, the male toilets are clean too. It depends on where you are. Toilets are toilets but a toilet in a rest stop in the boonies isnt the same as a toilet in a Parisian fashion event for example.

I have used the ladies toilets for most of my life but have been living as a man for the last 4 years and have found that the main problem with mens toilets is the smell which can't really be helped with the open cesspits (urinals) in them but other than the bad smells and occasional missing toilet seats (and sometimes doors), the gents are usually ok. I haven't noticed any after effects of the phantom toilet roll puller offers that I used to see in the ladies ::) Anyone would have thought there had been a labrador puppy in there.
I must admit though, on balance the ladies were better hygiene wise but I don't get the same problems (have actually had a woman block the door and tell me that is was the ladies and to use the gents on one occasion and 2 young girls giggling on another and this was before I started transition) I used to get in the ladies toilets so I would veer towards the gents just for the fact men don't use toilets to socialise in, if you know what i mean?

Not only are they cleaner, but they're often almost luxurious. There's a chi chi hotel in my town. The women's room is like a luxury suite, with two rows of sinks, marble and mahogany trim, and gold faucets. There are dishes of scented soaps and hand creams. There are chairs and miles of mirrors.
The men's room is one stall, three urinals, a mirror the size of a postage stamp, and the whole thing is about the size of the handicapped stall in the women's room.

Normally I'd agree that a woman's room is cleaner than a man's. However this is certainly not the case at my most recent job. The office is 97% female, and there are two bathrooms per gender. Two are upstairs and two downstairs. The bathrooms downstairs are both used by women cause there's too many of them to only use one so I've spent many a time waiting to get in only to find I wasn't waiting on one of the five men that work there. I am not upset about that, but when someone leaves their stinky shoes in there I'm aggetated to say the least. The shoes sat there all day, no one claimed them and they were slippers(female). Ended up in the trash by closing time.
The smells I've smelled in that place are disgusting, and I'm sorry to say it's coming from the the girls using the fascilities. I just can't believe they are like that at home. It's THAT bad.
Save to say I don't work there anymore and I don't miss that part one bit.
I don't mean to put any woman down here. I'm only using that place as a real bad example of what shouldn't be. It's usually the opposite in most places I've been.

I have used the ladies room while out and I find them much cleaner, but they can be dirty as well. The men's room has the problem with the urinal smell, gross! At home I always sit because you really can't aim propery without splattering everywhere. It is much cleaner to sit.

When I was a struggling student, I did office cleaning to make extra cash.
I didn't find much difference between the mens and womens toilets - they were both equally gross.
One thing I noticed though was the quality of the writing we had to scrub off the backs of the cubicle doors.
The women won outright every time, not only for neatness and grammar, but also for explicit content...and some of them have the cheek to call men perverted!

Um... yeah. When I go to the restroom, I go for one reason: to relieve myself. It doesn't have to be floral-scented or pretty and pink or anything of the sort... I just want a toilet, a sink, and possibly some soap. It's a good thing.
Btw... it'll get the living crap beat out of me I'm sure, but women are just as disgusting with their public restrooms as are men. For every time I've had to clean off a toilet seat in the men's room, I've ended up doing the same in the women's, except that many times, it's not just urine on the seat... yeah. Women are gross.

It depends on where you are. Toilets are toilets but a toilet in a rest stop in the boonies isnt the same as a toilet in a Parisian fashion event for example.
Thank you, Yvonne. It depends where you are and where you go. Certainly a public restroom in a McDonald's in the middle of nowhere is NOT going to be as clean as the ladies' lounge at Bloomingdales or Saks for instance. So I guess people should try to avoid those filthy places, eh? I do! :P I will never be caught dead in any of those disgusting restrooms not suitable for human use! :P

As for clean. Top-end department stores apparently have robo-servers that scurry outta the walls every thirty seconds to clean the toilets. They never seem to be dirty.
Bathrooms in other places, generally vary Mickey D's not so clean very often and truck stops and service stations and convenience stores. Also vary, but tend to be on the untidy side.
As for male/female differentials. I see pee on women's rooms floor often enough, the squat and miss variety most likely.
The bits of TP that women drop on the floor as if they cannot bear to touch a partial piece of TP and the dirty towels that never seem to make it through the trash-container slots just disgust me.
As I recall, the odor is, generally, better in the women's toilets. But there is nothing nastier to my mind more frequently than a public toilet, male or female oriented.
I like to wait till I get home as much as possible.

I've never had to clean off a seat in the men's room.
I would say that a men's room almost always smells a bit pissy, even a clean one.
A women's room, when clean, is pristine and odourless.
But a dirty men's room is never half as bad as a dirty women's. Urine and feces on the seats, toilets clogged and then used and not flushed, toilets simply not flushed, drifting scraps of toilet paper, some damp on one end from the women making instant DYI toilet-seat covers, crumpled paper towels on the floor by the door. Very often in a dirty ladies it's obvious that it was scrubbed pristinely clean very recently. What happens is that one fastidious lady comes in and she can't bear to let her naked bottom touch a public toilet seat, so she 'hovers' and pees on the seat and then every other woman who comes in after her is compelled to do the same thing, creating extremely foul conditions almost immediately.
This stuff wouldn't happen to near its customary extreme if the fastidious lady who feels compelled to hover would think to lift the seat first

I share bathrooms daily with women and they are all pretty much clean. What I would like to discuss, at the risk of losing my 1 and only reputation, is high school bathrooms.
I worked as a part time janitor at my High School and while all the bathrooms on that floor were gross the girls were extra nasty. They would stick soiled tampax (pads) on the walls, floor, toilets...everywhere. Instead of rolling them up in paper towel they would just use that sticky pad and place them where ever. It would seem most of them were heavy flow days and they didnt want to touch them to roll them up to dispose of them properly?? It really made me sick to my stomach. Since tampons became more widely used and are flushable I'm sure its not such a huge deal these days...but back in the 80's those pads were everywhere.
Yes I had to clean both bathrooms on that side of the hall and the boys room had pee and special slogans of "colorful metaphores" written everywhere and they couldnt find the trashcan for the papertowel to save their lives and they were the worst about flushing poop. But somehow it wasnt nearly as gross as the girls bathrooms.

One twist I'll mention is that while the women's room in my office is WAY cleaner than the men's room, I'll admit that may not carry over to public restrooms in general. I really haven't used enough public women's rooms to say.
BUT, while the men's room at work is... well... gross, lol... the women's room looks pristine. I know *I* never leave it without making sure I don't leave anything messy, and it's obvious everyone else *cares* too. It seems more like a social thing, since we all share it, there's a motivation to keep it nice for the next person since we're all friends.
I dunno if guys think that way or not, lol...

The condition of any public washroom largely depends upon where it is located.
The women's rooms in two supermarkets that are used like Grand Central Station, both in less prosperous sections of town, tend to be pretty grody and smell awful. Blocked toilets, some sort of fluid on the seats that might not be water, hand towels all over the floor, ewwwwwww all the way.
I see many possible reasons for such a mess, like moms taking little boys to the potty and the kids piss and miss; the toilet is already a mess and someone has assumed the "Toronto Airport Position," squatting above the bowl to avoid the unknown stuff on the seat and splashing or spraying the seat; and just plain "It's not my bathroom" as a reason to leave a mess.
Wal Mart, K Mart, supermarkets, and many gas bars have the worst potties around. Among the best are medium to upscale restaurants, auto dealerships, and government buildings accessible by the public, like a courts building.
Men's rooms aren't really in my bailiwick.

I don't have the experience of both to put in a perspective here, so let me just mention that one of the worst cases for men's bathrooms is at large chess tournaments. I've been to quite a few. They have equal numbers of men's and women's bathrooms (one or at most two of each easily accessible from the tournament hall) for a decent-sized population (hundreds up to well over a thousand) of around 90% or 95% men. Also, a lot of these tend to be men who don't take great care of their bodies.
So what I've gathered from this thread is that women's bathrooms are much cleaner on average, but also can be much worse.
