Title: Am I transgender or a crossdresser?

I am 17 years old and have been confused about my gender identity for years. When I was younger, around 6-7, I would fantasize about being a girl a couple times a week, but didn't think much of it. As the years went by I continued to have these dreams, and wanted to dress like a girl, but didn't act on them until I was in 6th grade. In 6th grade I started to crossdress, which turned me on, wearing some of my sisters panties and a leotard in secret. After a couple months of doing this I started masturbating and often to thoughts of being a woman after I would finish though I would be left feeling ashamed and would push the ideas out of my head, but they always came back. For years I have been wrestling with ideas of being trans or just a cross dresser. I'm not sure which I am because besides the sexual turn on I also do feel an urge to have a female body. Watching transgender porn also is a turn on which has added to my confusion. I have been very confused for years because I am a very sporty person, like girls, and am a pretty normal guy. But almost all the time now confusion about being transgender is all I can think about. During these times I get really stressed out and can't sleep as I worry about making the wrong decision regarding my gender identity and transitioning. Any advice helps. Thanks

Hey Alex
Welcome to Susan's :) Great to have you here - looking forward to seeing you around the forum.
It does sound like you have some gender identity issues you need to resolve. Ultimately though, no one on this forum can tell you for sure one way or another...it is simply something you must arrive at yourself. A counsellor is a good starting point so that you can discuss your concerns and arrive at a clearer understanding of who you are and what you would like to do about that.

I agree you should see a counselor. For me I finally realized that wearing male clothes felt like crossdressing and when I had on my dress I felt normal. I do have to put on a male persona for work but the minute I am home I jump into my normal clothes. Under my male clothes at work I do have on female undergarments each and every day. So I feel female in everyway.
Kind regards,
Heather

Generally you won't find the answer to your question by asking on these forums, or any other internet forum, or by thinking things through on your own.
I'll echo what others have said before me and say that you should start by seeing a counselor or therapist.

Don't get hung up on labels, no one fits perfectly into any category. How you choose to accept who you are is more important than what someone calls you.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I suspect you are transgender and that can mean many things. At the moment, the only decision you need to make is should you start therapy. It's possible to change your mind anywhere in treatment and in my case, the last point I could change my mind was just before they put me to sleep for surgery. Therapy will help you understand yourself and once you do, it will become clearer what you want and what you should do. I am going to provide you with two links that may help you. The first is our WIKI (https://www.susans.org/wiki/Transgender) where you will learn what Transgender means and possible places you might fit. The second link is "the transition channel" (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfO3B57E6NpIn-KsVjvmLLw) where a therapist will help you explore some of your feeling and might give you a clearer picture what you are. Should you have any questions, post them on this thread and I will respond when I am on again.

I made the decision when I was 17 to stick to crossdressing for I liked female's and had a decent Male life. I found a woman who didn't mind the crossdressing but draws the line at hrt, which I didn't mind. It's worked for 28yrs now and I'm still very much in love with her.

At 16 I had an experience like yours so I told my parents and it was tough oh so tough but after a ton of unpleast talks they agreed to take me to a therapist. Now I never thought I was a cross dresser I knew I was a girl but hey therapist helped prove this to my family and get what ever processes was needed into act.
Pretty sure a therapist will help you to come to terms with whoever you may be.
