So this time the pharmacist (new one, the good old one is gone, boo hoo) decided to fill my scrip with a 10mL vial. The problem is he says the serum is only good for 28 days once opened. What happens to the rest of the serum? If it has to be destroyed they still refill my scrip for next month, right? So confused right now (and my wallet has been raided).

The nurse practitioner gave me a prescription for 10ml to get me through until after my next appointment. Without giving away dosage amounts I'll just say that it will be longer than 30 days. The pharmacist said she had to tell me that the FDA says to use it within 30 days, but knows that I'll be using it longer. I think it's probably just one of those weird things the FDA does to try to control certain medications.

Just of curiosity are those vials  with rubber tops ? If they are the rubber tops are self repairing in other words you can
Multi dose as long as you use a clean needle  but leaving an opened vial or amp is a no no , test come with benzyl bensomate which stops any bugs forming
I use rubber tops and I have preloaded syringes but never left them more than a week in the fridge.....would you be using 250mg per week ?

I used to work in a pharmacy, and procedures didn't always make sense. Any injectable medication that goes out goes with the same warning. They are required to tell you that once the seal is broken, you have about a month before the medication may start to degrade.

Of course,  always follow your doctors orders. If you are concerned or confused about what the pharmacist tells you about your meds, call your doctors office and convey what you've been told. Your doctor can clarify for you.

All that being said, multi-dose vials are designed to reseal themselves. They can typically be used until they are gone, unless otherwise stated by your doctor and pharmacist.

Stable bonds, as hormones, cannot degrade of their own volition (outside catalysts are required to alter them). What can, however, go "off" is the suspension oil. And what prompts that degradation, is excessive exposure to heat, light (whether direct or indirect), and oxygen. So, when's the last time you had to toss out cooking oil? It's more or less the same as what's suspending your Testosterone... it very rarely goes off. It takes years... and that's with quite a bit more exposure to the aforementioned than does your T vial.

What would happen if your suspension oil somehow mostly broke down, is your levels would rise exponentially for a day or so (and depending on volume, potentially to adverse effect), and then plummet. Because it's the oil that circumvents your body from metabolizing the entire dose at once, instead prolonging the release in metabolite, for several days to a fortnight (on average; everyone's metabolic rate, therefore absorption rate of oil-suspended medications, is different).

A 10mL vial lasts me over a year, for nearly the past two now. I have noticed no degradation, nor do my labs reveal any either. But then, I do keep my vials in a cool, dark, place. In a pouch, still in it box, also - for good measure. I have another already beyond the 'use by', and I'm certain it will be just as 'good' as were it fresh by the time I get to it in a few months. Even if not, the 'degradation' won't be enough to discard it.

The reason most medications, and most edibles for that matter, have 'use by' dates is for purposes of legalese. Not because the substance will actually 'expire', or be 'harmful', if used beyond that date.

In short, this is not a concern. Store your vials appropriately and you need not worry about them.

I have only ever used 10ml vials and I've used the same vial for 4+ months at a time with no issue. My hormone levels have remained very consistently in the male range the entire time. Like Ayden said, the multi-use vials reseal themselves. As long as you're storing the vial properly, you shouldn't have any issues.

I've had multi dose vials last 3-6 months and my doctor actually prefers that to be the one that gets given out. It's cheaper and I prefer it. I'm stuck with 1ml vials right now and I really don't care for them.

1mL vials stink. Thanks for the info, everyone. This 10mL should last me over three months at my current dose. I keep it in the original packaging, in a tote with my other supplies, in a climate controlled house, and not next to a window.

I've only ever used 10mL vials (been on for 7 years) and have had zero issues. I'll echo other posters about keeping your vial out of light, etc. I keep mine in its box and in a cabinet.
