Today in the ABC News there is a story about Transgender woman (MTF) called Georgie and her parents fight to get access to T Blockers and HRT through the courts rather than buying black market hormones from overseas.. The story can be found at:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-08-15/transgender-teens-buying-black-market-hormones/7722084.

It will also be broadcast on Australian Story -tonight Monday 15th August 2016 at 8.00pm AEST  on ABC Television the Australian free to air public TV station.

Australian Story is a series each week which tells the stories of young and old Australian people often  with heart warming stories about achieving great things through adversity.

Georgie now aged 16 is an articulate and very beautiful young woman and her parents are seen as incredibly supportive.
Well worth watching if you have the chance.

Interestingly when broadcast on Television, Georgie's story was introduced by the Premier of the State of Victoria - Daniel Andrews describing her as a very brave young woman. For Premier read US Governor (although we also have a State Governor too, but she is appointed by the British Queen whereas our Premier is elected by  Elected members of our State Government).

Daniel Andrews  @DanielAndrewsMP tweeted
Georgie is one of the bravest people you'll meet. Proud to have introduced her episode of #AustralianStory tonight.

Anyway since the story broke on Australian Story this week , the Australian Federal Government Attorney Senator George Brandis  issued a statement yesterday which stated that:

The Attorney-General, George Brandis, has indicated he is open to changing laws that make it compulsory for transgender teens to seek permission from the Family Court before they transition to another gender.

Australia is the only country in the world that forces young people to seek permission from the Family Court - even if they have family approval and a doctor's go-ahead - for taking medication in order to begin the transition process.
The law has been criticised by advocates and families of transgender young people, who say it is stressful, expensive and unnecessary. Doctors need to diagnose young people under the age of 18 with gender dysphoria - a medical condition where people feel as though they were born as the wrong sex - before they consider medical intervention.

But the existing law could be set for the scrapheap, with a spokesperson for the Attorney-General saying it is under review.

"The Government is sensitive to the concerns of children and their families who are living with gender dysphoria and is actively considering options for reform."
