Title: Do Binders Really Work??
Post by: Sherlock11037 on August 27, 2016, 10:44:27 AM
Hello! So, I am a trans boy who is about 4'10" and weighs around 250-300 pounds. I'm not sure on my exact chest size, but I know that my moobs are very large. I was planning on purchasing a chest binder, but when I mentioned it to my step-mom, she said that those don't work for people with as large of a chest as I have and that it would be a waste of my money. So, I have to ask, do binders really work for someone my size? Or will I have to start saving for top surgery to alleviate my dysphoria? Thanks so much for taking the time to read this!

People with already small chest get best results, people with larger might have to use binders along with other things. Using them over halter sportswear can help.

They won't work as well obviously but they'll help with some dysphoria. GC2B are the best on the market and they have great reviews online from bigger chested guys.

I'm a big guy and at last measurement I have a 38DD/DDD chest. Not sure how you compare to me, but I use size large gc2b full tank binder and it gets me almost completely flat (it looks like a male chest though).

You gotta remember that even big cis guys have moobs too, so even if your chest doesn't bind completely flat, it won't necessarily look like a female chest.

Give it a go if you can, it could help you a lot with your dysphoria. Takes a while to get top surgery, so if that's your goal, binding could help in the mean time.

Good Luck!

I wore a 34H bra. My binder gets me flatter than I ever expected. Not perfect but I can pass as androgynous in a loose button down.
I think the money I spent on my Underworks binder is some of the best money I have ever spent. Besides, it's cheaper than a bra at that cup size.
I have large chested cis women friends who have started wearing them for minimizing and support.

Thank you all very much for your responses! I think I can live with being slightly flatter than what I am currently, so I'll give binding a try as soon as I can. :)

While a binder doesn't work as great for people with larger moobs, they do work well enough that you can usually see a difference if sizing is correct. I think if you can afford one, give it a go! You'd likely be pleasantly surprised, and hopefully, a little more comfortable with yourself.

I would suggest saving for top surgery as soon as possible if you plan on getting it down the track. Costs vary wildly by surgeon and whether or not you have insurance, so those might be things to look into when you begin saving, even if it's just for a ballpark figure of how much you need.

I'm 167cm|5'5", 106.3kg|234.3lbs, with a chest size around a C or D and use an XL gc2b binder. When not binding, my chest protudes farther from my body than my abdomen. When binding, it's the other way around more often than not. I'm not completely flat, but I look like I have gyncomastia or moobs at the least, which given my size and body fat percentage (over 30%), isn't abnormal. I feel far more confident when binding, and wouldn't feel too great leaving the house without it. All the best with binding should you end up trying it out. :)
