Hi,
On October. 24, 2016, Dr. Jess Ting and Dr. Marci Bowers will perform my vaginoplasty at Beth Israel Hospital in NYC.
I'm currently waiting on receiving my surgery packet from Dr. Ting's office. For the interim, I've been researching the requirements and schedules for dilating as required by the leading surgeons' in North America. I learned that Dr. McGinn wants patients to dilate five times a day for the first few weeks after surgery 😮. Dr. Meltzer requires that patients dilate five times on the first day of dilation. Brassard requires that patients dilate 4 x a day. I also read that Bowers wants patients to dilate 3 x daily. I take it that Dr. Jess Ting will require the same number of dilations on a daily basis as required by Bowers. I'm surprised by the difference in the number of dilations required by McGinn compared to Bowers and other surgeons.
I don't want to loose any of the depth that I will attain from surgery.

I don't know why bowers dilating schedule is so much more. I've heard this from all who went to her. I thinks it's because she wants to insure her patients do not have any difficulties. Kind of like insurance to avoid future repairs. IDK! At PAI Burin instructs 2 times a day 30 min for first 3 months, after idk yet. I'll find out sat.!!

As compared to Brassard and McGinn, Bowers actually requires less dilations on a daily basis for the first few months post surgery.

My surgeon Andrew Ive's who is a friend of Bowers was twice a day for 30 mins, for 3 months. once a day at 6 months, but really after 6 months you should be able to tell what you need.
I still every 2nd or 3rd day with mr orange and I am well over a year, If I leave it any longer than that it just takes longer and is less comfortable than I'd like. Trying some E cream recently to see if that makes any difference.

Is there any danger or problems if you dilate for too long? Like if you keep it in for several hours while you watch TV.???

I suspect it might not be a good idea. The first few months after surgery the circulation may be in the process of restoring it's self and the dilator may stretch the skin and reduce the circulation. I have to admit that within the first month I was dilating I feel asleep a few time from exhaustion. I woke up a few hours latter with my hand relaxed and the dilator half out. I didn't suffer any damage but I also suspect the tension was released allowing the blood to circulate.

FYI - I learned from a woman, who had her vaginoplasty performed by Dr. Ting, that he requires patients to dilate 3 - 4 times a day for, I assume, the first few weeks after surgery.

The full schedule I recieved from Dr. Meltzer was --
5x the first day
4x for the first month
2x for months 2 through 5
1x months 6 to 12
Gradually decreasing after that. It also says if its easy, you can decrease, and if its difficult, you should increase, letting your body be the guide.
The 5x the first day really is 4x the first day, 4x the second day, but getting up in the middle of the night so you don't have overnight between dialations on the first day. It sounded like an adjustment he made to make the 2nd day a little easier.
