Title: Waving hair and shed
Post by: ButterflyMelissa on September 08, 2016, 03:28:03 AM
Hi all,
I have all my hair, and I may never lose it :)
Well, as long as I take the T-blockers...and I will, religiously.
I have wavey hair...not straight...beyond the shoulders...
My daily routine is dampening the hair with a water spray and, starting at the tips, combing gently until I'm at the top. This I do with a wide-tooth comb ( a red one :) ) and, some hair comes out...obviously...
Then, once a week, I do that "clean out". I comb as usual, then I use a normal comb to get the dead hairs out. Quite a few come out the first times, then, after a third "run"...there are significanly less hairs (if any) in the normal comb.
Is it normal that waving/light-curly hair retains dead/shedded strands longer? That they stay "cought" in there because of the curl?
I've been told that by my hairdresser, but, of course she only sees cis-gendered ladies mostly (and me...)...
I confess to being somewhat more stressed than usual lately, but it could be due to my transition...
Of course (as some know from me) : no smoking, no alcohol, no meat, regular portion of yogurt and two eggs, regular movement, not overwheight...
We do have high summer here now with typical temperatures of 25°C (70°F ish) and up...
Thanks for shedding (no pun intended) some light here
Love
Melissa
PS - I did not count the hairs...that'd stress me even more, but I kept the "yield" in an envelope. I'll repeat this next week or so to see the evolution...
PS - I noticed crumbs in my hair and these appeared a few days after my shampoo, two weeks ago (I dont shampoo every week so the hair can keep its oils and such, I do make it wet though, this happens on a saturday, it's thursday now)...I may not have rinced out the shampoo properly. No itch, just little white crumbs...

Hi all
Far be it from me to answer my own posts :) but, here goes...and yes...google is a friend, but all the trans people around me (in life) are even more of a friend :)
So, indeed, with waving/light-curling/heavy-curling hair, the daily shed gets "trapped" in there, a regular clean-up is no luxury.
If you do that several days after a shower, there's no surprise quite some "escapes"...
And, the while stuff? That's...dandruff...a good shampoo (I use the one by Vichy (http://www.vichy.co.uk/hair-care/anti-dandruff-shampoo-for-dry-hair-dercos/p2166.aspx)) is a must...
The doctor (yea, yea, I know, going to the doctor for dandruff...LOL) assured me: no worries...
Sorry for raising flags...I'm new at this, and like any explorer, I wonder if the road is the right one...no GPS for transisioning :)
Kisses
Melissa
