Title: Required minimum BMI for vaginoplasty surgery?
Post by: mistyjensen on September 16, 2016, 07:37:26 PM
Hi,

I know that several surgeons have requirements that vaginoplasty patients cannot be over a certain BMI. But does anyone know if there is a minimum BMI that patients must be in order to have vaginoplasty surgery? My research hasn't resulted in an answer to my thought provoking question. The reason why I raise this question is because I am growing worried that my vaginoplasty currently scheduled for Oct 24th with Dr. Ting and Dr. Bowers might get canceled because I'm underweight.

I recently turned 34, am 120 lbs, which is the lowest weight I can remember that I have been, 5'9, and diabetic. I've never been overweight. The heaviest I have been in my life is 150 lbs. Notwithstanding the diabetes, I'm in otherwise good health. I eat healthy, walk a lot, and occasionally run on the tredmill. I have recently been losing a lot weight, but not on purpose. I don't know the reason why I have been loosing a lot of weight the last few years. I've been on HRT since Nov 14 and constantly eat. My primary care medical provider is doing a good job monitoring my health, especially because I am diabetic and have a history of consistently elevated liver enzymes, which are perhaps on account of the diabetes. My primary care medical provider and Dr. Ting haven't raised any concerns so far about me being underweight for surgery. However, I read that patients, who have low BMIs compared to patients who have high BMIs, have a high rate of complications from surgery. Note: that rate refers to people who have had different surgeries and is not specific to vaginoplasty.

I know of someone who had SRS with a much lower BMI than yours.
