Title: How often if ever do you get that piercing look of disgust

I had to go to the emergency room yesterday because of a lung infection. While at the hospital everyone was incredibly nice and proper. I happen to be homeless at the moment so I spend my nights at my favorite 24 hr Burger King to catch some sleep. I know the manager quite well and he lets a bunch of us homeless sleep in the store when few customers are around. Now to get to my point, there is this one employee that gives me the strangest looks because I'm trans. Last night he was fixing my order and kept giving me this look like he wanted to throw me off a cliff or something. As he is preparing the order he calls over the manager and has one of those secret huddles which seems quite obvious he's talking about me. I've known the manager long before I transitioned so I could care less. Just curious as to how often if ever do you get the total look of disgust for being trans.

Maybe I'm paranoid but I feel like I get them wherever I go.. I try not to let it bother me very much. I have yet to be confronted or hassled, but that's probably because I really avoid going out as much as I can and I'm still less than a year into transition.. :-\

While I've been expecting it, I haven't seen anyone giving me that look when I'm out of the house yet. I have caught looks, like that couple in the mall where the woman 'read' me while walking past and whispered to her male companion who looked back at me and was embarrassed to see me smiling at him. ;) I haven't really had someone just look at me in disgust, though.
At home, I only see it when I remind my spouse of an upcoming appointment where I will be going as myself. (I'm out in public, but not at home. Odd situation.)

I sometimes get a double whammy . I have recently become homeless and I'm forced to carry my life processions with me in a duffel bag. I live in a small college town and it's quite obvious with my duffel bag that I'm probably homeless and trans. Some of the looks that older woman give me are quite curious, they are obviously not your friendly neighborly welcoming smiles. Of course on the plus side people will hand me money without me asking.

Had another experience with a clerk at Burger King last night he was on his break and at first it looked like he was going to sit down at a chair by me , but changed his mind and sat by another customer across the room and proceeded to point toward me. I couldn't hear him , but he was kind of laughing while pointing in my direction. I've had similar encounters with other people of certain groups. Some people find it quite disturbing to be in the same area as a transgender.

Sorry that is happening to you Stephanie and sorry that you are homeless at the present.
I get those looks once in a great while. The last one i recall was in an airport, i think in Dallas or maybe Denver.
I was walking to my gate and some jerkasaurus glares at me as i was about to board. My main defense of that thing is I sort of laugh at them, like i am glad i am upsetting their homogenous little world and i make sure they know that i am. Yes it is sort of provoking them perhaps but i consider the setting i am in. Other times i just smile nicely.

It's unfortunate that there is still a stigma towards homeless people in our society. I'm sorry that happened to you :-\ *Gives a big hug*
Anyways, I think im really fortunate given my circumstances and all since I still havent gotten my ID and name changed yet. 99% of the time I just get a quick non-hostile/curious stare (if any) when they read my identification and move on about their day.

I always find it funny when someone tries to figure out why I have a male name.

I can't tell most of if people are doing that or not. However I'm always paranoid because I've never really got over the time it has been an issue.

I'm sure it happens and I'm just oblivious to it. I can't think of any time someone has actually given me any trouble, knock wood. The thing is I'm very careful about my environment and don't really go many places alone..cuz it's not as fun anyway!

Wow, Stephaniec, I love your attitude! You are one amazing chick. You are hanging in there and not giving in at all. I hope that things settle in soon, it's nasty out there. Neither one of us is a spring chicken, but I sure hope for the best for you. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I'm not totally sure , but I think I got one today as this young adult female came in my front view and gave what what looked like an incredible cold stare. It could of been normal for her for anyone , but it sure didn't look too friendly.
