governments in Canada have come a long way to reducing the barriers to healthcare and changing identity documents but we still have work to do.
I feel for my southern neighbors and anyone around the world that don't have the access we get here.

Thankfully we are becoming noticed! where I live currently in Ontario, Ontario funded SRS begining in 1969, however in those times you were dealing with the worst gate-keepers they say. In 1998 Premier Mike Harris defunded it for no real reason. 10 years later, Premier Dalton McGuinty re-funded the procedure. Now, all provinces have funding :D!!!

Harris defunded it and a lot of other things because he's a right wing "Conservative". Like the Republicans in the U.S., he has decided the government shouldn't help people (but can't do enough for the wealthy or larger corporations). The disaster that is health care in the U.S. is the result of such "Conservatives". Stephen Harper was more of the same at the federal level. In their eyes, the government should be a reverse Robin Hood, take from the poor and give to the rich. Of course, we can't forget the nonsense that was "Reaganomics", where giving tax breaks to the wealthy was supposed to make everyone else better off. In fact the opposite happened.
