Title: Top Surgery 12hrs ago, quick (huge) worry

Just had ftm top surgery 12 hours ago, and it's past business hours so I can't call the surgeon or surgery center. Is sudden one-side swelling normal? My right side drains are already running clear but left is still most//all blood and clotting.... And very sore. I also just got sick twice. Has anyone else experienced one-side swelling and pain and uneven draining like this? Internet is not helping. I'm incredibly prone to anxiety attacks so please help me ease my mind :( (Signed up just to ask this. Sorry if I'm breaking any rules but my anxiety is in control)) |

Welcome to Susan's Place! You haven't broken any rules. :)
You can always use the emergency room if you're worried. I'm not a doctor, but if it's infected there would probably be a simple course of antibiotics. Nothing to get too anxious about there. Try to relax and get yourself looked at as soon as you can.
Hugs, Devlyn

Welcome to Susan's Place. You didn't violate any rules but there is a far better place for this thread in the FTM top surgery section so I will move it there in a second. If there is anything else I can help you with, let me know.

I had one side swell right after surgery. That's why you have the vest to keep it under control. As long as the blood is still collecting properly in the drains I would not worry. The swelling will go back down shortly.

You can always call a surgeon's office after hours. If you listen to the message played, it'll give you a way to get in touch with a nurse on call.
Make sure you're wearing your compression vest, draining whatever you can regularly and keeping track of the amount of drainage. Take your meds, drink some water, and make sure you're getting up and walking around regularly. Swelling is very normal, as is soreness. I would suggest calling your surgeon's office if you haven't already. If it sounds bad to them, they'll have you come in.
