Title: HRT, Day 1

Well, after four months of planning, i've finally arrived at day one of HRT. I met with my doctor at Kaiser's Oakland Transitions department (rather than meet with a local Kaiser doc) and received the standard HRT starter kit (half dose of Spiro pills and half dose of estradiol patches). We'll take a blood test in two weeks, to assess increasing sprio to the full dose, and in two months, to assess moving estradiol to the regular amount.
i've started a spreadsheet so i can track a variety of measurements monthly over time, but being 65, i know progress will go slowly at best. Still, it's a start.

Woo hoo! We have liftoff! ;D
Congratulations! How did you like the Oakland folks? I'm trying to get one of the primary care physicians there, as my current spin on the Kaiser Wheel of Doctors seems a tiny bit uncomfortable with me. (Poor guy. I think I gave him a surprise when he started his physical... >:-) Yeah, severe gynecomastia. Yeah, that's the ticket! )

I hadn't been to Piedmont in 40+ years, so it was nice to meander the streets and walk by my father's former house. I arrived in boy clothes, since i'm light years from passing, so it was a bit of a surprise when the attendant called me Laura instead of my boy name. It made me a bit self conscious, since i clearly look like a man. Sometimes i think i'm being ridiculous thinking i'll pass someday. Dr. Slovis was great, sincere, and caring. Since she's more an expert at trans issues than my local doctor here, i preferred to make the 90 minute drive to Oakland. Still, there weren't any surprises since my online research readings here at Susan's had already informed me what to expect.
I'm committed to six months of HRT before i assess my progress and decide to go long term.
