Title: Height changes?
Post by: Cheriika on November 14, 2016, 02:58:55 PM
Is it possible to shrink in height if you take estrogen and if it is possible then how much are you able to shrink? I know that bones won't shrink but I hope that something else will do so I will feel more like the other girls and match them more, pass better and feel overall much more feminine. I really have problems with my height because I am much taller than the women in my town, there are just a handful women that reach my height 5'10" (179cm). The big majority of women are between 5'1" and 5'8" and I want to feel like I am a part of them and not a big thing that used to be a boy.

Some people report a small reduction in heigh of an inch or two but in my case, I am still the same 6'2" that I was before starting my transition. There is talk about the pelvic tilt changing and possibly changes in the cartilage. If you do a little digging, somewhere around here there is a thread about this subject that was active within the last year or so.

My Dr explained it to me as a change from a pelvic tilt and loss of muscle mass in the feet and back.  But I don't think all trans women shrink.  I have known several trans women and they were all very insistent that your height didn't change nor your hands change.

Yeah my health remained as it was pre HRT. I think any shrinkage in height probably comes from loss of muscle mass. Hugs

My height and feet size have both stayed the same.  The spinal column is not composed of muscle so unless your posture changes or your spinal column degenerates I cannot see how one could get shorter.

I lost 1 and half  inches in height due to back injury ( two failed disc's ).
Since HRT I lost almost 2 shoe sizes , which I though was completely impossible.  I do note an above poster mentioned muscle mass decrease in feet , so I can only guess it must be muscle and fat lost in feet as bones don't change

I lost almost 2 inches, and have the medical records to prove it.

I didn't change my height, but I did appear to get taller, probably just from standing up straighter to make my boobs look bigger though :)

Pre-transition height:  5'10"

Dr. appointment ~8 yrs ago:  5'9"

Dr. appointment 2 months ago:  5'8"

Maybe I'm shrinking, or maybe I'm just getting old and this is a normal decrease in height around age 50.  YMMV
