Title: Went to the doctor to ask about letter for passport

The people at the front desk said they said that while they would put the request but that they did not think they could do it until I changed my gender marker on my insurance my responce was why and that makes no sense do they have a reason?

It might just be an internal policy of theirs - wherein, if they were to provide you with a letter to update your gender marker, they feel obligated to update your gender marker in their records which could then lead to issues with insurance claims. They want to get paid, so they don't want to do something that would cause their money to get held up. You could try telling them that you need a letter from the doctor to change it on your insurance?
It's literally just a form letter though for a Passport. They don't have to write anything, just sign it and put the medical license number. Not sure why it'd be a big deal.

That could be thanks! I am also trying to change my gender marker before 01-20-17 so my legal name is still my dead name which may have raised heads.

Congrats, Kristy! I'm doing the same thing (leaving the name change for later and everything), just filed my passport application last Friday.
