Title: Mixed feelings about buy my first set of girl clothes

So after a conversation with a trans girlfriend of mine she challenged me to go buy some girl clothes. My excuse for not wanting to is "I don't want to buy anything then lose a bunch of weight then have to buy more. I don't have a lot of money right now."
That's what I told her anyways, really I'm kinda of scared. I have no idea what to expect. I feel like if I go shopping online it's cheating. I don't know if I'm ready yet to buy clothes, but I'm really excited about wearing girls clothes. But I also feel like if I don't rise up to her challenge then I'm somehow belittling transwoman every where. Like I'm not really trans I'm just some messed up in the head guy.
I thought I would start simple and get some panties and cotton nightgown. Nothing fancy, just something that I can feel comfortable in.
So confused...

I think that's a great idea. I did the same thing. Sleepwear is the best, and you can be comfy in the privacy of your own home. I'd also recommend some cute, cozy socks..but I'm kind of a sockaholic..
Just remember gender identity and gender presentation are different things. You can still identify as trans and be comfortable in whatever. Just take things at your pace and don't be afraid to try new things (:

Don't feel pressured by others but a nice warm nightgown is a good place to start. It's not terribly costly and as you lose weight, it will continue to fit. There isn't much of a point in spending a pile of money on something you may not get a chance to wear out the door because it will soon no longer fit.

There are plenty "middle of the road" clothing choices. I have Nike Pegasus shoes in a women's size 12. I wear a men's 10. I'm the only one that know they are really women's shoes and that makes a difference to me. I also wear men's Jockey Elance underwear. They have no fly front and there is very little difference between the men's and women's. I wear both interchangeably. I have graduated into Jockey Promise Tactel no panty line panties now.
I also have black stretchy t-shirts that are similar to a camisole. They are a men's item, but feel much like something a woman would wear. I have pretty large boobs and I get a bit of perverse pleasure showing them off in these t-shirts.
My summertime "guy-dyke" outfit of khaki shorts, polo shirt and women's tennis shoes is about as androgynous as you can get.
I sleep in a nightshirt I got from Vermont Country Store. I have two of them. They fall about mid-thigh and I've seen many women's dresses that are similar.... the classic "little black dress".
Many women today wear long "tops" that fall down to the upper thigh, almost like a short dress with tights or pants. Try wearing a long man's shirt un-tucked, and then ease into a woman's top that is very similar.
Women have been "transgressing" toward men's clothing for 70 years or so, since Lauren Bacall first appeared in pants.
The "plausible deniability" of men's clothes that only LOOK like women's clothes can provide some cover that could make you feel more secure.
Best Wishes,
Randi

hehe
I remember the first clothes I bought were sports clothing on Decathlon (big sports retail store).
But I bought them while in "boy mode" still "inside the closet".
I had this attitude "I'm buying some clothes for my wife" and this really gave me confidence to spend hours having fun.
I even mixed some male clothes in my basket to be able to get into dressing room still using my "for my wife" attitude. Really fun to try them on, and of course really funny to remember! :D

The holiday season is approaching. No one will raise an eyebrow if you bought woman's clothes. However, I buy woman's clothes all the time and no one has ever made a comment including trying on shoes. (Granted I leave my small town as to not to cause any issues for my family.)

Oh my gosh. I did it. Two pairs of panties. Comfy socks. Pantyhose and the pants. I'm not sure the pants are going to fit. I'm half tempted to keep them if they don't and hang them up as insensitive to lose weight.
Uggg... how do I add a photo?!? 😡😡

Try shopping at a thrift store - its cheap and they have already seen plenty of trans people before so no one will care one iota about what you buy. Its a cheap way to learn what looks good on you and what styles you prefer. Don't like something you bought? Just re-donate it.
Under dressing is a great way to get started, as is sleeping in typical women's night apparel. It tends to be warmer where I live so long Victoria's Secret t-shirts are what I wear to sleep in, and I have similar long tshirts in flannel for those occasional chilly nights.
One word of advice I can give you about online clothes shopping - the clothes you see on the models in the advertisements only look good on you if you are their size. I'm a stockier girl and it took a couple of disappointing orders before I figured that out.
Have fun with your clothes shopping! :)

I would like to be able to wear total girl clothes with my wife out in public. She doesn't have any problem with us wearing matching male/unisex style clothing; even with some female shirts and sweaters that are more unisex in appearance. However, she has never crossed the line to strictly female items. :(
How can i get her to accept total female styles?

You might try just telling her that you like to do that. That's what I did. I told her that I'd like some more fem tops because I like the neckline, brighter colors and variety of styles. I have a pretty thick neck that makes men's crew neck t-shirts uncomfortable on me. The neckline fits like a choker. Over the next couple of days, she went through some of her stuff and found several tops that would fit (she'd lost a bunch of weight the previous year). Somewhere along the line, I asked if she had any short shorts and she came up with a bunch of those.
I'm retired and most days I dress casually and everything I have on came from the ladies' department. I did buy a pair of leggings last winter, and she did say, "I don't think you ought to wear those out. I just don't want you to get beat up."
I've never asked about a dress, but I don't think I'd look good in one anyway. lol
All the best,

I don't dislike shoes. I just can't fit into them off the shelf. I found a custom shoe maker affiliated with Nordstrom called Shoes of Prey They are a bit pricey starting at about $125 and going up to mid $200 depending on style and add ons. But they fit, are of higher quality, guaranteed by Nordstrom. I bought some shoes from Long Tall Sally and immediately broke the heel. If you are fairly young you may want to give Venus.com a try for clothing. If nothing else you can envy the models. Prices are reasonable and the quality does seem good at least on the items I purchased. Oh to be 20 years old again. But that ship has sailed.
