Title: first binder - is this safe?
Post by: transguys on December 04, 2016, 01:46:59 AM
soo i'm not entirely sure if i'm using this right but hmm i'll just start with this.
i just got my first binder and i'm not sure if it's the correct size? like if its safe for me to wear and everything?
i measured my chest correctly just as instructed and made sure to order the size said on the sizing chart but when i got it it seemed.. very small. like VERY. i got an x small tank and i know thats, yknow, extra small, but it still only goes to just barely past my chest? and when i put it on i literally couldnt get it on without tearing the stitching kinda..(i was very desperate for it to fit)
i wore it for 4 and a half hours today while i was out and it was so uncomfortable. i know it's not gonna be ever really 'comfortable' but it felt kinda restricting and the left side of my chest kinda ached. and even hours after i've come home and taken it off it feels a little ... bruised i guess? in my  upper chest.
also near the end of the time the edges sort of under my arms were hurting me and it still feels kinda weird.  is this okay?? is it normal to feel this way at the beginning? i'll be so disappointed if i shouldn't wear it like this but i also don't want to be actually really damaging myself.(PS i'm really sorry if this isn't how to use this i've never really used a forum but this is the only place i know i can ask ;_; )

It's normal for it to feel tight and hard to put on at first but not for it to cause bruising  or feel painful. I'd get a bigger size. Btw what brand is it? If it's an Underworks it always felt painful underneath my arms and caused bruising snd general achyness even though I had it in the right size. Partly bcos it was a poorly designed binder and partly bcos if the scratchy material. If it's a GC2B it should feel completely painless and completely comfortable.

Binding can be uncomfortable over long periods of time but should never be painful. If you jumped straight into wearing it for 4 hours a day I can imagine that might be a bit painful at first since you're not used to it. I think Underworks makes great binders, provided you're wearing the right size. And I always found the sizing on them to be fairly straight forward. No experience with any other brands.
