Title: My Endocrine appointment went well
Post by: Harley Quinn on December 10, 2016, 10:09:42 AM
I made my appointment yesterday with my Endocrinologist. Despite the freak snowstorm the little VW Beetle got me there. My Endocrinologist is very nice, and a bit shy I think. I was a bit more frank with my response to her questions than I think she was expecting. She blushed a few times over my responses. Lol... but I like to joke when I am nervous.

They started my blood tests for midcycle hormone levels, gave me a breast exam (I have more breast tissue in my left breast, but my right is actually bigger.. who knew!), and discussed my medication levels. The good news is that she was impressed by how much growth I had already, but she was not thrilled that I haven't accumulated more fat on my butt. So she actually brought up putting me on Progesterone. Cool right!?!?

I'm a bit skeptical about using Medroxyprogesterone Acetate tablets (Provera), but Micronized Progesterone  (Prometrium) isn't currently on their Formulary. What would be the big side effects to watch out for? I'm kind of going to be watching for the less than beneficial side effects so I can discuss getting a request for non-formulary prescription, or request to add it to the Formulary. But, hey if by chance I don't have any negative side effects, then awesome... keep on rolling!

I did notice that they had natural progesterone creme on the 2016 Formulary. I wonder if it might be an option... you don't hear too much about the creams.

If that's gorgeous you in the profile pic she was probably flirting with you  ;) :D

It all sounds very encouraging. I've learned too that being frank is much better. We live with this desire, need, to transition for so long that when we have the chance to offload on a professional it's worth telling it like it is.

Good luck and keep us posted. I'm intrigued about the whole butt-fat issue!

xx

Thanks for the compliment. Yes, that's me in my picture. However, I was not dressed up for the appointment. I didn't shave, and just wore a T-Shirt and denim jeans. I figured it best to not play up the progress I made, since I was asking for more drugs... so I kept it as unflattering as possible.

I mean... would you be more apt to change the dosages for this Trans-Woman

Well, sometimes Endo's will hold back on HRT if you are still presenting in your original gender in order to give you additional time to get your image together. I think mine did that because I really didn't know enough to present female and I saw him for a couple of years before Dena walked into the office.

I don't worry about that, as I show up at the therapist, primary care, and speech pathology "dressed to impress". She has it in my medical files how often I do show up dressed more appropriate as they also filled out my gender change as well.

Hahaha good point  :D

You look stunning. I know it's more about looking good in makeup though. I was offered a job working in a Bangkok bar on the basis of dressing up one evening  ;D But it's about the whole deal of change. One of the most fantastic things about the FFS I've just gone through is that I don't now feel I need to wear makeup everytime I go out, but that's another story I guess. Very best of luck with your endo prescriptions. xx

I just got my estradiol meds doubled, via a phone appointment.  Having a serum estradiol level stuck at or below 50 pg/mL probably had something to do with it.  I calculated what it should have been from the pharmacokinetics data and it should have been right at 50 pg/ml, so with the huge test error bars and daily fluctuations even when on a patch, the reading was exactly what I had expected.

The new meds should put me at the low end of the transition range per the SoC.  Given how well my body has reacted so far, I'm looking forward to what happens in the next 6 months. ;)

Since this was a phone appointment, I was pretty drab.  House jeans, turtleneck, old gray wig (now my loafing around the house hair).  I at least kept my voice up when I answered the phone.

Yeah, sorry I didn't leave my pictures floating around on the net too long. Not since my photo came up on a MTF Google search... that keeps me diligent on who what when where why and how people see my photos. Generally speaking, 24 to 48 hours and I start removing them.  Not everyone out there gets to know that I'm Trans.  Definetly not from a google search.

I am so happy after an Endo and GP now OB/GYN appointment with my breast exams and they've shared with me that they're definitely growing and rounding it is so wonderful and validating about HRT and the increase in my hormones.  Hugs Shannon
