2-3 month in . Biggest changes happens after year one up to year 3.

I am currently 39/28/40 ( bust/waist/hips). When I started with ??/27/36

YMMV on this.

I started HRT in Jan 1997 at 42. I lost muscle, but fat never went to the hips or backside for me... and I really needed it to do that..

Well I'm a bit over one year in now, and things are starting to shift. Abdominal fat is slowly disappearing, and the ass has definitely become the most voluminous area of my body ;)

And, from what I understand: it's only the beginning of a three year process. Which SRS will speed up considerable. Wiehee enjoy the rolleracoaster!

I never saw it coming, was gradual over the course of the last three years since on hormones. In regards to weight, I actually weigh less than when first starting hormones. Before hormones I weighed, 180, current weight 160 but my thighs and hips are noticeably more pronounced. 

Im comming up to 3 yrs on hrt and started out at 100 kg now 80 but fat distribution is coming along nicely but it can be hard to notice till one day looking in mirror i can see feminine shape starting to show through my baby fat [emoji136]

I hope it can happen naturally for me, given enough time.  But if it doesn't, I may opt for surgery to move the fat.  I hope it doesn't come to that though.

I wonder if the fat redistribution doesn't work for trans women if they start HRT late in their lives?  I'm nearing 40 and I feel like it was too late for me to get this benefit.

well I started hrt right after turning 21 so I guess I'm lucky.

I didn't get much redistribution, back in the day.  A little.  When I gained weight recently, most of it went to my belly, secondarily my breasts, and thirdly just all over.

I wonder if this depends on what kind of fat cells have been previously established.  Before transition, I'd developed a bit of a belly, and those fat cells never go away, they just shrink and wait for new stores to pack away.

Fat redistribution will happen at different times for everyone. Your fat cells have "life cycles". They die and regenerate within our bodies. It's not until they die off that they are repositioned within your body based on the hormone "road map" that tells them where your body is supposed to build fat. So for some people the cells reach the end of their life cycle soon after starting hormones, some later. There's no real way to know when it will happen. Up to 5 years, and as soon as a month.

Still, most stories I've heard tell me the fat actually only starts moving one year into HRT. seems to happen in my case as well. The ass has been getting bigger now, and the belly is slowly going. Are there ways of speeding up the death of the fat cells?

EDIT: Oh, and one very important thing: Reduce your beer habits! I had a serious problem with beer beforehand, and since I've stopped drinking for the most part and switched to wine for any lingering after-effects, the belly has also seen a reason to get smaller.

Apart from that, the ass shouldn't be getting bigger at this rate because of that sole intervention, so I rest my case that for me, the fat is redistributing :P

It happened within months of starting HRT. YMMV.

Its either genetics or luck I think.  I'm 50, not been a year yet on HRT, but the changed distribution is very noticeable for me, especially when I run.  otoh, I don't seem to be losing any muscle mass like I'd expected to. 

It doesn't stop at 3 or 5 years.  Nor does it not work for older people.  I'm 67, have been on HRT for 10 years and I'm still growing.

I began to notice a shift at 4 months out, hasn't changed a lot but certainly that first boost was noticed.
